52 households in high-risk landslide area
On September 23, Mr. Nguyen Duc Toan - Chairman of Quy Nhon Ward People's Committee, Gia Lai province - and ward leaders directly inspected areas at risk of landslides, directing response work in heavy rain conditions.
In the Nui Mot area, residential group 19, there are 52 households living in the area identified as at high risk of landslides when heavy rain.
Notably, the road leading to this area is quite small, only accessible by motorbike, making it difficult to access, support people and organize relocation when an emergency situation occurs.
Mr. Nguyen Duc Toan said that the locality has reviewed the evacuation and emergency relocation plan for residents; and at the same time inspected forces, vehicles and living and logistical conditions at the centralized evacuation point.
This is a dangerous area, when there is a risk, it is necessary to relocate and evacuate immediately. I have encouraged the people and assigned the task directly to the neighborhood," Mr. Toan said.
Along with the inspection, Quy Nhon ward forces were mobilized to cut down trees, clear the flow, and put up warning signs in dangerous areas.
In the Pham Ngu Lao 78 slope area, residential group 16, ward leaders inspected the current situation and assessed the risk of soil and rocks collapsing into the surrounding residential area.
Local authorities request to review dangerous locations, proactively warn, divert traffic and be ready to relocate households located in the directly affected area if dangerous situations occur.
Handling landslide points on Le Cong Mien street
On the same day, in the landslide area on Le Cong Mien street, Quy Nhon Nam ward, local authorities mobilized excavators and functional forces to the scene to clear soil and rocks.
According to records, soil and rocks from the embankment overflowed, filling part of the road surface; some locations are located close to the edge of people's houses, affecting travel.
After many hours of treatment, most of the soil and rocks have been cleared by functional forces, the road surface has been cleared, creating conditions for people and vehicles to travel.
At the scene, Mr. Nguyen Duy Tuan - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Quy Nhon Nam ward - requested forces to urgently handle landslide points, prioritizing locations that directly affect people's travel and safety.
The locality also continues to review key areas, promptly detect and handle points at risk of continued landslides.
Heavy rain forecast continues
According to Gia Lai Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, from September 22 to 23, the eastern area of the province will have moderate to heavy rain, with very heavy rain in some places and thunderstorms. Total rainfall is commonly 40-80mm, in some places over 130mm; Quy Nhon 194.1mm, Cat Tien 160.4mm.
From the morning of September 23 to 24, the eastern area of the province will continue to have thunderstorms, common rainfall of 30-100mm, in some places over 120mm. The western and central areas of the province will have showers and thunderstorms, common rainfall of 20-40mm, in some places over 50mm. The meteorological agency warns of the risk of heavy rain in a short time.
From the morning of September 25 to 26, Gia Lai province will have rain, moderate rain, in some places heavy rain and thunderstorms, common rainfall of 10-30mm, in some places over 50mm.
