On the morning of April 28, the People's Council of Dien Bien province, term XV, held its 20th session to consider and approve the Project on reorganizing administrative units at the commune level.
Accordingly, 45/45 delegates attending the 20th session voted unanimously, the Provincial People's Council passed the Resolution on the Project to rearrange and reorganize administrative units at the commune level in Dien Bien province, by rearranging 129 communes, wards and towns (currently) to establish 45 new administrative units at the commune level (42 communes and 3 wards).
After the arrangement, Sin Thau is the commune with the largest natural area in the province with 516.42 km2. Muong Thanh ward is the MVHC with the smallest natural area, 27.56 km2.
The names and headquarters of the 3 wards after the arrangement are as follows: Dien Bien Phu ward (headquarters of the City Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee of Dien Bien Phu city); Muong Thanh ward (headquarters of the District Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee of Dien Bien district); Muong Lay ward (headquarters of the Town Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee of Muong Lay town).
