Lam Dong - The heavy rain and floods in Da Huoai 3 commune caused nearly 9 billion VND in damage.

On the afternoon of August 13, the People's Committee of Da Huoai 3 commune (Lam Dong province) had a preliminary report on the damage caused by heavy rain and flash floods.

Accordingly, from the night of August 12 to the early morning of August 13, there were prolonged heavy rains in the area.

Water from the Da Ban and Da Da Po mountain forests flows in, causing the water level of the Da Huoai River to rise, overflowing into people's homes and production areas.

In some areas, river water overflowed onto the road, causing flooding of more than a meter and rapid flow.

In that situation, the People's Committee of Da Huoai 3 commune promptly mobilized hundreds of people from many forces such as the army, police, militia, cadres, civil servants, and public employees to support people to cope and overcome the consequences.

However, due to the rising floodwaters and sudden strong currents, local people did not have time to react.

Many assets, household items, agricultural tools, and agricultural machinery were swept away by the water, causing heavy damage.

According to statistics, the flash flood injured 1 person after falling and breaking his arm while fleeing the flood. Floodwaters also caused 4 houses of people to have partial collapsed walls and cracked walls. A local shop was completely swept away by floodwaters.

Rising floodwaters caused about 100 houses to be partially flooded from 0.5 to 1 meter, causing most of their household items and equipment such as TVs, computers, refrigerators, and washing machines to be damaged and swept away by the water.

Along with that, about 75 water pumps and water pipeline systems of people along the Da Huoai riverbank were swept away by floodwaters.

In addition, flash floods and inundation also damaged about 35 hectares of people's crops. Of which, hundreds of durian trees of the people were broken and uprooted; 10 fish ponds of the people were swept away.

Floodwaters caused erosion and landslides on some traffic routes. In particular, 2 bridges in village 8 were swept away by floodwaters.

The preliminary estimate of damage caused by floods is nearly 9 billion VND.

Right before and after the flash flood, the People's Committee of Da Huoai 3 commune mobilized more than 200 police officers, militia and soldiers of the 37th Engineering Battalion to support the emergency evacuation of households at risk of flash floods and landslides.

The forces also helped move assets and clean up houses; focused on overcoming landslides, clearing water flows to ensure traffic and safety for people, and at the same time set up warning signs of danger.

For the subsided hill in village 1, the authorities have inspected and supported the clearance of rocks and soil, and advised people to evacuate when there is heavy rain.

Mr. Nguyen Van Trinh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Huoai 3 commune, said that he had reported to the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control of Lam Dong province to request financial support to overcome the consequences.

At the same time, this locality also reported to the Department of Agriculture and Environment to direct specialized agencies to survey and assess the risk of landslides in some locations so that the commune can develop a plan to relocate households to ensure safety.
