Soldiers stand side by side with people in border areas to overcome the consequences of floods

Yên San |

Son La - Immediately after the flood, border guards arrived in time, supporting people in the border area to overcome the damage and soon stabilize their lives.

During the rainy and flood days in early August, people in Sop Cop, Chieng So, Muong Lan, Chieng Khoong... were not alone as border guards were always by their side, quietly sharing and standing side by side to support. In the midst of hardship, the image of blue-ranked soldiers became even closer, a reliable support for the people in the border area.

In Muong Lan commune, on the night of July 31, floodwaters rose rapidly, sweeping away many properties, causing heavy damage to houses, infrastructure, and agriculture. The total value of damage in the whole commune was up to more than 10.4 billion VND.

In that situation, Muong Lan Border Guard Station mobilized forces to be on duty, promptly present at flooded and landslide locations, set up checkpoints to block people from passing, and evacuate people to safety.

The unit also launched an internal donation, donating 5 million VND to help people in flooded areas.

Ms. Vi Thi Toi, Muong Lan village, emotionally said: "When the flood came, property was swept away, and roads were cut off. The soldiers arrived in time to bring my family to safety, provide food and encourage us to overcome difficulties".

In Chieng Khoong commune, where Muong Cai Border Guard Station is located, floods also caused serious impacts. The unit has helped relocate assets to 6 households in dangerous areas, arranged temporary accommodation and provided food and drinking water to 20 isolated people.

More than 90 officers and soldiers were mobilized to clear landslides and clear traffic routes. The station also called on organizations and individuals to support people with a total value of over 100 million VND.

Not only providing first aid in the area under their charge, Muong Cai officers and soldiers also directly participated in the search for missing people in Chieng So and Muong Hung communes; protecting the scene, supporting the rescue of isolated citizens.

Not only in the flood, but also in socio-economic development, new rural construction, the border guards accompany the Party Committee, government and people".

From rescue, material support, to mobilizing villages to respond to natural disasters, fight epidemics, maintain border security... every border officer and soldier contributes to creating the image of a soldier close to the people, for the people. Those practical actions have further strengthened confidence, helping people in the border area feel secure in their work, attached to their homeland, and maintained the national border.

In recent days, floods and landslides in the North Central and Northern mountainous provinces have killed and left many people missing, houses, schools and maple blossoms were swept away and submerged in mud, affecting local production activities.

"A piece of food when hungry is worth a package when full", with the spirit of mutual love that has always been a beautiful image of the Vietnamese people, the Golden Heart Social Charity Fund calls on domestic and foreign philanthropists to join hands to share with people affected by floods.... to soon stabilize their lives.
