On the afternoon of January 6, heavy unseasonal rain poured down on Ho Chi Minh City, causing many roads to be deeply flooded, local traffic congestion, and people's lives to be disrupted. Heavy rain on school day, so many students also encountered difficulties in moving.


According to Lao Dong newspaper's records, from about 2 pm on the same day, rain appeared on a large scale in Ho Chi Minh City, lasting until after 5 pm. Many areas were heavily flooded, water rose too high above the wheels of motorbikes, causing a series of vehicles to stall and traffic to fall into chaos.
In the area around Mizuki Flora urban area, Binh Hung commune (HCMC), many roads are deeply flooded, cars and motorbikes have difficulty moving. Rainy times coincide with rush hour and school break, many students of Nguyen Binh Khiem Elementary School have to wade through water to go home. Some cyclists were swept away by waves from cars, even falling in the middle of the road.


Local people said that this area is often flooded every time there is heavy rain or high tide. Ms. Nguyen Thi Van (resident of Binh Hung commune) living in this area shared: "Out-of-season rain with large amounts of water makes many people unable to react in time, the road is flooded as soon as it rains.


Not only in Ho Chi Minh City, on January 6, unseasonal rain also appeared in many western provinces. Some places recorded significant rainfall such as Vinh Hoa Hung (An Giang) 14.6 mm, Go Quao (An Giang) 10.4 mm, Tien Thuy (Vinh Long) 9.4 mm.
According to the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, the cause of unseasonal rain is due to the combined impact of subtropical high pressure, equatorial depression and cold air from the North, increasing humidity, developing low-lying clouds, causing rain, fog and reduced visibility.


Forecast for the next 24 hours, rain in the South will gradually decrease, and at night it will only appear sporadically in a few places. However, light fog may still appear in the early morning, especially in riverside areas and canals. The meteorological agency recommends that people pay attention to safety when traveling, especially during peak hours and at night.
