According to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper on January 20, Tran Van Hoai Street (Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City) has been upgraded, with new, clean and beautiful asphalt pavement, and people are excited to participate in traffic on the road in the days leading up to Lunar New Year.
Along the route, traders and gardeners are also bustling with Tet flower displays for sale on the sidewalks. The road surface is clear, convenient for people to buy and sell.
Speaking with Lao Dong on January 20, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Giang - Director of Tri Viet Construction Investment Joint Stock Company (the contractor) - said that up to now, the unit has completed the road surface upgrade, the first asphalt paving and temporary traffic opening on Tran Van Hoai Street, creating favorable conditions for people to travel and do business, shopping during Tet.
Tran Van Hoai Street is upgraded from 25 - 60cm depending on each section. After the first asphalt paving, the unit will continue to asphalt the second time to reach the required height after Tet. At the same time, the road will be widened by 3m on each side, the sidewalk will be 6m (currently the sidewalk is 9m on each side). When completed, this road will have 6 lanes, with a right of way of 40m.
“Currently, the unit has withdrawn all machinery and equipment and temporarily suspended construction. For the remaining items such as: second asphalt paving, road expansion, re-laying technical trenches, drainage culverts, sidewalk renovation, tree planting, etc., the unit will continue to implement after Tet,” said Mr. Giang.
Previously, Tran Van Hoai Street was considered one of the “flooding centers” of the city center. This place was often submerged in water during heavy rains or high tides, affecting the travel, business, and daily activities of residents, especially students studying at the school on the street.
Regarding the change of the route, Mr. Dang Hung (Ninh Kieu district) said that he and other businesses here are very happy when the street is upgraded and clean, his restaurant also welcomes more customers, especially before Tet.
“This route used to be a nightmare for our people. During heavy rains and high tides at the end of 2024, water overflowed onto the sidewalks, flooding the shops. I had to let my staff go home and pack up, and I couldn’t do business,” said Dang Hung.
Many students were also eager to ride on the new, clean, high road, and expressed their joy at being able to escape the situation of wading through water and walking their bikes when the road was flooded like before.
Previously, in September 2024, the People's Committee of Ninh Kieu District approved the design to expand and upgrade Tran Van Hoai Street with a budget of nearly 40 billion VND. This is an important route with a length of 525m, connecting two major roads of the city, 3 Thang 2 and 30 Thang 4.
The upgrading and expansion of Tran Van Hoai Street not only helps improve traffic conditions and enhance people's quality of life, but also contributes to urban beautification, creating a highlight for Can Tho City on the occasion of Tet.
