Dredging and collecting sand and gravel in the reservoir to serve the construction of the highway

THANH TUẤN |

Gia Lai - Mineral resources from lakes, irrigation dams, and hydropower plants will supplement abundant materials to provide for key projects, especially highway projects.

On July 27, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Gia Lai province said that the unit is proactively coordinating with relevant agencies to propose dredging, reclaiming sand and gravel at reservoirs, irrigation dams, hydropower dams and dams in the area.

This mineral source is mainly concentrated in the West Gia Lai area where there are many rivers, streams, lakes, and dams. The construction of key projects such as the Quy Nhon - Pleiku expressway and the North - South expressway requires a large amount of sand and a system of mine points for construction.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment is also responsible for surveying and compiling statistics on mining sites according to the correct reserves and planning. The exploitation of mineral resources in the reservoir must ensure the safety of reservoirs and dams, absolutely preventing incidents such as subsidence, damage, and negative impacts on the environment and people's lives.

The Department will also propose the Provincial People's Committee to revoke illegal mineral exploitation projects such as causing environmental degradation, not fulfilling financial obligations to the State (deposit debt, rights fees, taxes of all kinds, etc.).

In lakes such as Ia Mo, Ia Ly, An Khe - Kanak, Con River, Ba River, Ayun River... there are quite large sand reserves, especially after each rainy and flood season every year.

In the last 6 months of 2025, Gia Lai will speed up the progress to start construction of key infrastructure projects: runway No. 2 and synchronous items at Phu Cat Airport; Quy Nhon - Pleiku Expressway; Hoai My Industrial Park; Phu My Industrial Park and Port...
