According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper on April 16, the area behind Hoa Binh Square, adjacent to Tran Hung Dao Street, has become a gathering place for thousands of cubic meters of construction waste such as broken concrete, scrap bricks, wood, steel and scrap for many months. Some places also have mixed household waste, giving off a foul smell, especially on hot days.

It is worth mentioning that this place was originally planned as a community living space, where people could exercise, have fun and be a destination for tourists. However, the landfill next to it has turned the area into a mustard image in the city center.
The landfill is not covered, garbage overflows onto the road, creating a shabby image, in contrast to the space expected to be a landscape highlight of Hoa Binh city.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tung (37 years old, living in Group 8, Quynh Lam Ward) shared: "We don't understand why there is a landfill like this right next to the square, which should be a cultural highlight of the city. Children playing nearby is very dangerous, not to mention flies and mosquitoes, the stench seriously affects people's lives".
Not only affecting daily life, the landfill also creates a bad impression on tourists. Many people coming to the square for the first time were surprised to see the garbage lying exposed next to the public space. This not only causes discomfort but also affects the image of tourism.

Mr. Le Van Binh (65 years old, living in group 3, Quynh Lam ward) indignantly said: "No one denies that garbage needs to be gathered in a place but cannot be left right next to the square, where people, children, and the elderly live every day. This is too offensive".
"Public space, especially the city center square, must be a green - clean - beautiful place, a cultural and tourism highlight of the locality. However, to have a landfill right next to a community activity site is contrary to the goal of building a civilized city," Mr. Binh added.

The leader of the People's Committee of Quynh Lam Ward confirmed that the above area was not originally planned as a place for construction waste collection. However, because the city has not yet arranged a specialized treatment plant, the situation of people illegally dumping garbage occurs frequently, gradually forming a giant landfill. Although the ward has repeatedly organized forces to handle violations, this situation has not been thoroughly controlled.
"The City People's Committee is directly directing relevant units to coordinate to completely handle this situation," the leader informed.
