Upon hearing the news of the storm, fishermen in the Da Nang sea area quickly anchored their boats at Tho Quang fishing port and prepared storm protection plans.

Urgently anchor the ship

To prevent the nearshore storm (storm Tra Mi), since October 24, fishermen in the Da Nang sea area have anchored their boats at Tho Quang fishing port (Son Tra district, Da Nang city).

Mr. Nguyen Van Son, a fishing boat owner in Da Nang, said that after hearing news of the storm, his boat moved to Tho Quang fishing port to avoid and take shelter.

“My boat had been fishing in the waters of Da Nang for 7-8 days when the radio reported a storm. My brothers and I brought the boat back to port for 3-4 days to avoid it. This is a big storm, the route is quite complicated, so not only me but also other boat owners brought the boat to port, docked, and secured it carefully to avoid damage…”, Mr. Son worried.

Fisherman Nguyen Dang Tuan, residing in Son Tra district, shared that storm Tra Mi is likely to bring a lot of rain, if left at sea, the boat will easily be flooded with rainwater and sink, so it must be pulled to shore and tied up. Some people with larger motorboats have to hire a crane to move them up at a cost of 300,000 - 500,000 VND/trip.

According to many fishermen, they have to constantly monitor the news, regularly update storm information from the authorities to know the wind direction, the path of the storm, and then anchor their boats securely. Currently, some people are still tying ropes and pumping water out of their boats. By 4:00 p.m. on June 24, strong winds appeared at Tho Quang fishing port. Many fishermen, although they had anchored their boats, were still worried and had to frequently go in and out of the anchorage area to check.

Count and keep in touch with ships

On October 24, the City People's Committee issued a telegram on responding to storms near the East Sea (storm Tra Mi). The City People's Committee requested armed forces, departments, branches, and sectors, Chairmen of District People's Committees, and related units to proactively monitor forecast information and developments of possible natural disasters. Promptly direct and deploy response work according to the Prevention and Overcoming Consequences plan corresponding to some natural disaster scenarios in 2024 in Da Nang City.

The Da Nang City Border Guard Command informs all owners of vehicles and boats still operating at sea of the location, direction of movement, developments and dangerous areas of the storm to proactively avoid, escape or not enter dangerous areas, urgently go ashore, find safe shelter, pay attention to vehicles operating at sea. Coordinate with the Da Nang Port Authority, the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center Region II and related units to effectively implement the search and rescue plan at sea.

Organize the counting, strictly manage and maintain communication with the vessels still operating at sea, focus on guiding and urging fishing vessels to leave the dangerous area immediately. Regularly report the situation of vessels to the Command Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense of the city.

Da Nang City Police coordinated with the City Border Guard Command, the Management Board of Tho Quang Fishing Port and Wharf and the People's Committees of localities to guide fishermen to implement solutions and measures, and arrange permanent forces for fire prevention and fighting when anchoring boats to avoid storms at Tho Quang fishing port and Man Quang bay, to prevent fires and explosions, to ensure security and order, and safety of State and People's assets.

Da Nang Maritime Port Authority inspects and reviews anchoring to ensure safety for cargo ships and transport ships when anchoring in Da Nang Bay.
