For many years, households living in the So mountain area (Hoa Khanh ward, Da Nang city) have always lived in a state of insecurity every time the rainy and stormy season comes.

According to records, many areas in So Mountain have shown signs of landslides. A large patch of rock and soil slid down, exposing red soil and a layer of crushed rock and soil below. Large rocks are scattered along the landslide, stretching from the mountainside to the foot of the mountain.

Many landslides are only a few meters away from residential areas. Some houses and constructions located right at the foot of So Mountain face the risk of insecurity due to prolonged heavy rain.

According to local people, landslides have occurred for many years, with heavy rains causing rocks and soil to slide onto the road, obstructing traffic and making traffic unsafe. Some households said that they had seen rocks and soil overflowing in front of their houses many times. After the landslides, the authorities brought excavators to clean up.

However, landslides continue to recur, especially when heavy rain continues, causing many households living at the foot of the mountain to always be in a state of anxiety.
After more than 60 years living at the foot of So Mountain, Ms. Nguyen Thi Vung (An Ngai Tay Village, Hoa Khanh Ward, Da Nang City) has become very familiar with the scene where every time a storm comes, her whole family has to move their belongings and move to a safe shelter.

Despite being evacuated many times, the worry still haunted her every night, because the landslides right behind the house still exist and could bury her level 4 house at any time.
"When it rains heavily, water flows down from the mountains, pulling rocks and soil. When I lie down at night, I sleep listening to heavy rain and worry about rocks and soil sliding down. The family has 4 members, 3 adults and 1 young child, every time they hear a storm announcement, they have to pack up their belongings and bring important documents to go immediately, not daring to stay in the house," said Ms. Vung.

As for Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Van (An Ngai Tay village, Hoa Khanh ward, Da Nang city), nearly 50 years of her life have to live in anxiety and fear at the foot of the mountain every time she hears a storm.
"I and the people living at the foot of So Mountain always hope to soon have a relocation plan or measures to ensure absolute long-term safety. The family has elderly people and children, so if there is any luck, I can't run in time," Ms. Van said sadly.

Faced with the above situation, the leader of the People's Committee of Hoa Khanh Ward informed that the locality has a good grasp of the landslide situation in the So Mountain area and has proposed to the city a plan to relocate and resettle households living in dangerous areas to ensure safety.
