The road leading to Tran Van Som bridge in Gia Rai ward, Ca Mau province is nearly 2km long, from Rach Rang roundabout (Long Dien commune) to the foot of Tran Van Som bridge (Gia Rai ward) has seriously degraded, causing difficulties for travel and trade.
The road is seriously damaged, with many "potholes", especially during the rainy season, stagnant water becomes a swamp, causing many difficulties in traffic, posing a high risk of traffic insecurity.
Tran Van Som Bridge across the Bac Lieu - Ca Mau canal was inaugurated and put into use in 2016.
The strange thing is that the bridge project is not related to the approach road project to the bridge, so when the bridge is completed, the approach road to the bridge is only temporary, making it difficult to travel.
In 2024, the investment project to upgrade the access road to the new Tran Van Som bridge will be implemented. It was expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2025, but it has not been completed yet.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, who often passes through this road, said: Because the old Gia Rai bridge is weak and limits its load, trucks traveling to Ganh Hao have to cross Tran Van Som bridge. The bridge is sturdy, but the access road to the bridge is very bad. For the past 5 years, the road has not been completed, making it extremely difficult for us to travel.
The construction of upgrading the road section is delayed due to scarcity of construction materials, causing many difficulties for the project. Currently, the supply is stable, the contractor is increasing "3 shifts, 4 teams" to speed up the progress, committing to complete and put into use in 2025.
The leader of Gia Rai Ward People's Committee said that this week, the Project Management Board of the area will invite the contractor to urge and speed up the project's construction progress.
Accelerating progress, completing and putting it into use soon will not only meet the expectations of local people, but also facilitate trade connections for people in the area and neighboring areas, contributing to promoting the socio-economic development of Ca Mau province in the coming time.
The project was approved by the People's Committee of Bac Lieu province in Decision No. 2415/QD-UBND dated December 26, 2023, with a total investment of nearly 56 billion VND, invested by the People's Committee of Gia Rai town, Bac Lieu province (old), the construction contractor is the Nguyen Nam consortium. The project is 1,870m long ( starting point at Abutment B of Tran Van Som bridge; ending point at Km 1+870 of Rach Rang roundabout, adjacent to Dong Hai district). The road is designed as a level III plain, with a load capacity of 10 tons, a design speed of 80km/h, a road surface width of 7m for motor vehicles, a roadbed width of 14m, and a reinforced sidewalk width of 2m on each side.
