National Highway 14C is 566km long, starting at Plei Can intersection (intersection with National Highway 40), in Ngoc Hoi commune, Quang Ngai province. This route connects border communes such as Ia Dom, Ia Nan, Sa Thay, Ngoc Hoi, Ea Sup... Along the route, local people often transport agricultural products such as sweet potatoes, rubber latex, coffee... through the areas for exchange and trading. Mr. Ha Anh Thai - Deputy Director of the Department of Construction of Gia Lai province - said that the National Highway 14C project through Gia Lai is being paved with asphalt on weak geological foundations that are prone to landslides. Frequent rain and floods have damaged and degraded the road.
According to records, National Highway 14C through Ia Mo and Iautch communes is eroded and peeling, with many locations densely populated with potholes. Mr. Tran Manh Thanh - residing in Chu Prong commune, Gia Lai province - said: "Every rainy season, the road is damaged, affecting the transportation of agricultural products and goods of people along the border". Ms. Nguyen Thi Le - residing in Ia Tach commune - shared: "Border traffic infrastructure needs to be invested in and upgraded to meet the travel needs of the people, facilitating socio-economic development".
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper reported that in 2023 and 2024, National Highway 19C through the border area of Kon Tum province (old) now Quang Ngai province was continuously damaged, with many potholes. The project was put into operation in March 2023.
However, many locations on National Highway 14C are peeling and sinking, posing a potential risk of causing traffic accidents for people on the road. Ms. Nguyen Thi Lai - residing in Ia Loi commune - said: "The border road has a small volume of vehicles passing through, mainly rubber latex vehicles. However, the asphalt road is constantly damaged. Rubber farm workers riding motorbikes at night without paying attention often encounter potholes and deep holes that are very dangerous.
The communes in the West of Quang Ngai and Gia Lai are currently entering the rainy season with large, continuous flows. The provincial Department of Construction needs to monitor and promptly handle damaged locations on the border artery.
