According to the Institute of Geophysics, this is the 2nd earthquake of the day in the Lieu Chau area. The previous earthquake was magnitude 5.2 and occurred in the early morning of May 18, causing serious damage.
Recorded on the evening of May 18, many people in Hanoi felt shaking. Talking to Lao Dong, Mr. Nguyen Minh Toan (Cau Giay) said that at about 8:30 pm he felt a slight shaking, and some objects in the house also shook, suspected of being caused by an earthquake.
This situation is no longer too strange because earthquakes occasionally occur in Hanoi, but they are usually mild and cause little damage. Many people often feel shaking, especially in high-rise buildings.
Experts believe that in addition to trigger earthquakes concentrated in hydropower reservoir areas such as Kon Tum and Quang Nam (old), there are some natural earthquakes.
Natural earthquakes occur on some fault zones according to the rule that when enough energy accumulates, earthquakes occur, the larger the earthquake, the less likely it is to repeat.
