At around 5:00 p.m. this afternoon (October 10), at the beginning of Me Tri overpass (towards Mieu Dam), Lao Dong newspaper reporters witnessed a scene of motorbikes lining up to go in the wrong direction on Cuong Kien street to turn up to the overpass.
Accordingly, instead of having to take a detour under Me Tri overpass towards Cuong Kien street, then turn onto the overpass to Mieu Dam street, many people choose to go in the opposite direction about 100m, from the Thang Long Avenue service road to the overpass.

In just about 30 minutes of presence, the reporter recorded dozens of violations. It is worth mentioning that if people follow the correct traffic organization here, they will only go a few dozen meters further to get to the overpass.
"What crime is that you have to go in the wrong direction like this, both dangerous and costly if discovered and punished by the police", a vendor in this area shared with PV when seeing many violators.
According to people in this area, at many times of the day, there will be authorities standing right at the head of Cuong Kien Street to remind and punish violations. However, when there are no authorities, violations recur, especially during peak hours in the morning and afternoon.

At the foot of Me Tri overpass, Cuong Kien street is one of two black spots of congestion that Hanoi has handled in the first quarter of 2025 (the remaining point is the Linh Nam - Do Muoi Intersection). According to the reporter, during the peak hours on the afternoon of April 10, vehicles moved smoothly, without congestion.
Regarding the situation of going in the wrong direction at the above location, in recent times, Road Traffic Police Team No. 6 - Hanoi Traffic Police Department has increased the handling of violations.
According to Decree 168, for the violation of "Going in the wrong direction", violators will be fined from 4 to 5 million VND and have 2 points deducted from their driving license.

"It is clear that besides the majority of people who comply with the law, there will still be those who deliberately violate. The Capital Traffic Police will strictly handle violators with the motto "No forbidden areas, no exceptions".
With strict legal regulations and the support of public opinion, the Traffic Police Department of Hanoi City Police hopes that traffic participants will raise their awareness and strictly comply with traffic order and safety laws," said Lieutenant Colonel Pham Van Chien - Captain of Road Traffic Police Team No. 6.
Lieutenant Colonel Pham Van Chien also said that in the coming time, the unit will increase the number of flexible patrol forces at different times to promptly detect violations.
