Urgently harvest the Summer - Autumn rice crop
On August 24, in Hop Minh commune (Nghe An), the harvest atmosphere for the Summer - Autumn rice crop took place very urgently. In Sim field, farmers have been present since dawn, using mixed-use dam harvesters, harvesters, sacks... to harvest rice in fields with plump water and slow water retention. The mud was so thick that many people still bowed down to quickly harvest the young rice balls that had not yet ripened.
Mr. Thai Van Cuong - a farmer in Hop Minh commune - said: "My family grows 5 sao of rice fields, this area is located in an area prone to flooding, with ripe rice about 60 - 70%. If the storm does not make landfall in time, it will be considered a total loss. Not only my family but the whole neighborhood is racing against time to collect the rest before the storm comes.

Mr. Cuong added that many rice fields in the locality and neighboring areas could not be harvested because there were not enough days. The reason is that this area is already a "flood center", many areas have to be re-sown after the unseasonal flood at the beginning of the season, leading to a 10-15 day delay compared to the harvest schedule.
Not only worrying about harvesting rice, people also have to quickly move livestock, poultry and valuable assets to higher ground to avoid damage.

Not far away, in Loi field (Van Tu commune), a similar situation occurred. People are harvesting rice day and night, minimizing damage to crops.
Mr. Pham Quang Sang - Vice Chairman of Hop Minh Commune People's Committee - said that the whole commune has about 2,000 hectares of Summer - Autumn rice. To date, the locality has harvested more than 570 hectares and is expected to complete an additional 150 hectares today, reaching nearly 2/3 of the area before the storm makes landfall.
Mr. Sang added that the main reason for not being able to harvest the entire area is that many fields were affected by the unseasonal flood, and people had to sow again, so there were not enough rice days. In addition, the number of local harvesters is limited, the locality has mobilized more machines from other places but still cannot meet the demand.
"We prioritize harvesting fields that are prone to flooding and easily fallen down to minimize damage to people," said Mr. Sang.
