Wastewater attacks the marine environment
Recorded in the area near Nhon Ly fishing port, black, foul-smelling, enzyme-based wastewater flows straight into the beach, forming a large, foaming pond right on the sand. Every time the tide rises, the wastewater flows all over the beach, giving off a strong smell.
A similar situation also occurred at the discharge gate of Nhon Ly Wastewater Treatment Plant. The black, foul-smelling water was accompanied by many plastic bags and household waste floating around.
Nhon Ly beach is dirty, disappointing many tourists. Ms. Kim Hong (born in 1996, residing in Dak Lak province) shared that the beach here is very beautiful, with calm waves and poetic scenery. The mural road along the coast is also an attractive check-in spot, especially for young people.
"However, the big minus is that the environment around the beach is not clean. The stench from the wastewater coming straight into your nose is very unpleasant. I only had time to take a few photos and then go to another location. The locality needs to quickly handle this situation, restore the cleanliness of the beach, so that visitors have a more complete experience," said Ms. Hong.
Previously, in mid-July 2025, a large amount of black wastewater, dragging dirty mud and sand, also flowed from the discharge gate of the Chong Trang project, expanding the road along the embankment of Ly Chanh and Ly Hoa villages, pouring directly into Ly Hoa beach, causing people to be upset.

Wastewater treatment plant "as if not"
belonging to the project to renovate and expand the road along the embankment of Ly Hung and Ly Luong villages (old Nhon Ly commune), the wastewater treatment plant of Nhon Ly commune has an investment of more than 17 billion VND, starting in 2022 with a designed capacity of 100m3/day and night, invested by the Investment Management Board for Construction and Development of the old Quy Nhon City Land Fund.
The project will be completed in 2024, including a sewer system, a pumping station and a biotechnology treatment area. The factory is expected to contribute to protecting the marine environment, creating a foundation for sustainable tourism development. However, the project is currently locked with left doors, " lying motionless", the campus is overgrown with weeds, and the operating team is absent. Although it has stopped operating, the plant still collects wastewater from Ly Luong and Ly Hung villages. Right at the discharge gate, the foaming black water flows straight into the sea.
Talking to Lao Dong, Mr. Tran Viet Quang - Chairman of Quy Nhon Dong Ward People's Committee - said that previously, domestic wastewater of local people was discharged directly into the sea. To overcome this, the old Quy Nhon City has invested in building a treatment plant, located far from residential areas. This project has been accepted and put into use, but because it has not been handed over to the management and operation unit, the contractor is still directly operating.
After the reorganization of the government organization, from August 9, 2025, the new project will be transferred to Quy Nhon Dong ward for continued implementation.
"The ward is reviewing the operating process, making estimates and hiring a temporary operating unit while waiting for official handover. In the immediate future, the ward requests the construction unit to continue maintaining the factory's operations to ensure that wastewater treatment is not interrupted," said Mr. Quang.
According to Mr. Quang, the reason why the factory is "inactive" is because the previous package has not yet arranged funding for the operation phase waiting for handover. Therefore, the contractor only maintains the minimum level for microorganisms, not enough to fully treat the amount of wastewater generated each day.
