By the afternoon of October 29, floods on Vu Gia, Thu Bon, and Da Nang rivers had peaked at least 3 times. That is, the flood will peak, recede slowly, and then rise at a new, higher flood level. By the end of October 29, floods on these rivers had officially surpassed the historical flood mark of 1964,
The emergency flood and special flood bulletin issued by the Central Hydrometeorological Agency said that by noon on October 29, the water level on the Vu Gia, Thu Bon, and Tam Ky river systems continued to rise, surpassing many warning levels, including places that exceeded the historical flood level in 1964.
According to the report of the People's Committee of Da Nang City, from the afternoon of October 25 until now, the city has had heavy to very heavy rain, with total rainfall in many localities over 1,000 mm. More than 66,000 homes were flooded.
The whole city currently has 10 communes and wards completely isolated; 29 communes and wards are heavily flooded. Localities have evacuated 4,835 households/15,886 people from deeply flooded and dangerous landslides. Relocation work has been implemented safely and promptly; temporary accommodation has been arranged and necessary necessities have been supported.
Up to now, many areas have been flooded, people have been "honesting" for more than 3 days, food is fast-fried, drinking water is gradually depleted. Due to deep flooding, power outages, and temporary water plant systems, clean water for daily use and drinking water are gradually depleted and scarce. The armed forces, the government and spontaneous volunteer organizations are organizing relief and supplying people. Drinking water, dry food, lights... are essential today.
In the central area of Da Nang City, many groups, associations and private individuals are calling for donations, automatic cooking, buying dry food and drinking water to supply people in flooded areas along Vu Gia and Thu Bon rivers (old Quang Nam).
Mr. Huynh Viet Hoang, the Nhan Ai - Da Nang charity social work team, said that after only a few hours of mobilizing, hundreds of servings of fast food, instant noodles, drinks, etc. were gathered. Currently, the charity work team collects relief gifts, organizes water vehicles, ministries to approach and transfer people in the flooded areas of Dai Loc, Duy Xuyen... to patients being treated at Duy Xuyen area hospitals.
