Raising awareness, changing behavior
On August 8, 2025, the Vietnam Water and Environment Association solemnly held the 5th National Congress of Delegates for the 2025-2030 term. At the congress, the Vietnam Clean Water and Environment Association officially changed its name to the Vietnam Water and Environment Association.
Speaking at the opening of the congress, Mr. Chu Pham Ngoc Hien - Chairman of the Vietnam Water and Environment Association - said that the Vietnam Water and Environment Association is a voluntary professional social organization of those interested in the field of clean water and environment, the Association is under the state management of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment. In recent times, in the face of difficulties, the Association has tried to focus on implementing 3 orientations: Bringing clean water to the poor, turning waste into resources, and helping the community respond to climate change.
The Association's operational goal is to communicate to improve the capacity of grassroots organizations and social unions, raise awareness, change behavior in the community in the fields of water, environment and climate change response.
In the summary report on the work of the Association for the fourth term (2019 - 2024), Ms. Pham Thi Xuan - Permanent Vice President of the Association stated that during the fourth term, the Association has implemented many specific and practical action programs, closely following the goal of ensuring water security and the environment for the community.
The Association has implemented many practical activities to ensure water security and environmental protection such as: Organizing forums and seminars on greenhouse gas emission reduction, green transformation, Net Zero 2050; accompanying COVID-19 prevention, launching the movement "Anti-waste plastic", "A day to make the world cleaner", monitoring new rural criteria.
As the Head of the Law - Health - Environment Emulation Cluster, the Association was proposed by the Vietnam Fatherland Front to award the emulation flag for excellence in 2024; participate in research on carbon credits, honor outstanding scientists... The system of affiliated units is strongly strengthened.
Promoting the results of the previous term, the Vietnam Water and Environment Association for the V term (2025 - 2030) identified 3 contents: water, environment and climate change.
Improving operational efficiency
Speaking at the congress, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Phung Duc Tien affirmed that the Vietnam Water and Environment Association is a place to gather experts, scientists, and experienced managers in the fields of natural resources and environment; participate in consulting, criticizing and implementing issues on water security, environmental security and climate change response.
On behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, I highly appreciate the sense of responsibility, enthusiasm and great contributions of the Vietnam Water and Environment Association throughout the past term.
In the context of the country facing many difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change and pressure from economic development, the Association always maximizes the role of professional social organizations, closely sticks with the community, businesses, scientists, actively contributes to the cause of environmental protection, water resources and sustainable development" - Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien said.
The Deputy Minister suggested that the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Water and Environment Association for the new term will continue to direct and lead the Association to overcome difficulties as well as improve operational efficiency, proactively propose viewpoints and policies for the development of the field of natural resources and environment.
Speaking at the ceremony to receive the assignment and instructions from the superior delegates, Chairman of the Vietnam Water and Environment Association Chu Pham Ngoc Hien expressed his deep gratitude for the Congress's trust in introducing him to the new Executive Committee, term 2025-2030.
The change of the name from the Clean Water and Environment Association to the Water and Environment Association not only expands the scope of activities, but also shows that our responsibilities and areas of work are getting heavier. Therefore, the Executive Committee needs to make the highest efforts, overcome all difficulties, and uphold the sense of responsibility to be able to successfully complete the assigned tasks" - Mr. Hien said.
After a period of urgent and serious work, the Congress elected the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Water and Environment Association for the V term (2025 - 2030) including: 01 Chairman, 07 Vice Chairmen and 01 General Secretary.
