On December 1, Mr. Ho Van Mung, Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee, had a working session with An Giang Power Company and the People's Committee of Phu Quoc Special Zone to grasp the situation, discuss solutions and update the progress of overcoming the underground cable incident that caused a power outage in Phu Quoc.
According to Mr. Tran Minh Khoa, Chairman of Phu Quoc Special Zone People's Committee, up to now, Southern Power Corporation has mobilized 12 generators from many provinces in the region, with a total capacity of 2.3 MW to provide temporary supply, to meet the electricity needs of islanders.
However, there are still 525 specialized power stations of enterprises that have not been supplied with grid power again. Currently, all customers using electricity for daily life on Phu Quoc Island have been restored to power, but have to have alternating power outages because the source capacity does not meet the load.
The leaders of Phu Quoc Special Zone People's Committee expressed their sympathy with the Power sector for the efforts in recent days to implement solutions to overcome the incident according to the direction of An Giang Provincial People's Committee and Southern Power Corporation.
The People's Committee of the special zone hopes that the provincial level will continue to closely coordinate with the electricity industry and relevant agencies to speed up the progress of power source recovery. At the same time, timely updates information for people and businesses, to ensure the demand for electricity in the context of the current high number of tourists to Phu Quoc.
Previously, on the afternoon of November 29, 2025, an incident occurred on the 110kV Ha Tien - Phu Quoc underground cable line. Immediately afterwards, An Giang Power Company and Phu Quoc Power Management Team deployed an emergency response plan, mobilized maximum forces and coordinated with specialized units to isolate, determine the cause and handle. The inspection results showed that the incident was located near the end of the cable on the Ha Tien bank, forcing the electricity industry to isolate the cable to ensure safety and find solutions.
In the immediate future, to maintain power supply and operate the system safely, An Giang Power Company is supplying priority electricity from Nam Phu Quoc 110/22kV Station via the 22kV medium voltage grid to essential load groups such as Party agencies, authorities, armed forces, hospitals, clean water systems, telecommunications and some residential areas.
According to An Giang Power Company, the time to restore the underground cable line to its original state may take about 2 months. However, the fastest temporary solution at present is to pull the floating line from Ha Tien station to the incident site, cut the damaged cable and re-weld it, with an expected implementation time of about 10 days.
An Giang Power Company calls on people to continue to use electricity economically, turn off unnecessary equipment to share difficulties with the electricity industry in the process of handling and fixing the current power source with problems.
