On the morning of November 23, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh - Director of Road Management Area III - said that by 7:45 p.m., traffic on National Highway 1 through Dak Lak province had been restored in both directions.
Previously, the historic flood in Dak Lak caused water levels to rise, deeply flooding many sections of National Highway 1. The flood caused erosion of the road surface and washed away the median strip, causing vehicles to line up in long lines, causing congestion for many days.
As soon as the water receded, Road Management Area III mobilized maximum manpower, along with excavators, bulldozers, dump trucks and mechanical equipment to repair the damage. Rescue forces coordinated with local authorities to clear rocks and soil, handle landslides, and ensure traffic safety.
By the afternoon of November 22, the serious erosion at Km1339+300 - the main cause of traffic jams - had been handled, vehicles were allowed to move slowly. By the evening of the same day, traffic through this area was completely smooth.
According to the report of the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee, as of 3:00 p.m. on November 22, the whole province recorded 44 deaths, 8 missing people and 2 injured people. Heavy rain also caused flooding and landslides on many provincial and national highways, affecting the railway, causing traffic disruption for many days.
Property damage was particularly large, with more than 150,000 houses flooded, infrastructure severely damaged; 3.2 million livestock and poultry died; about 127,000 aquaculture cages and 1,000 hectares of brackish water and mollusk farming areas damaged.
