According to the Department of Construction of Quang Ngai province, National Highway 24 is a vital traffic route connecting the administrative center of Quang Ngai province, Dung Quat port, National Highway 1 with Ho Chi Minh road, the Northern Central Highlands, and the Southern Lao provinces, with a total length of 168.2 km.
According to the Road Network Planning for the period 20212030, with a vision to 2050 approved by the Prime Minister, National Highway 24 has a scale of level III roads, 24 lanes. This route has been transferred by the Ministry of Finance to Quang Ngai province for management, use and exploitation according to regulations.
On August 6, the leader of the Department of Construction said that after merging Kon Tum province into Quang Ngai, along with the development of Mang Den Tourist Area, the demand for travel and trade has increased sharply, causing traffic pressure on this route to increase.

However, due to limited resources, on National Highway 24, only the sections Km0Km32 and Km89+515Km165 were invested. These sections have been upgraded to meet the standards of a grade III mountainous road, while the sections have been expanded through urban areas according to the plan.
In particular, the section of Km32Km89+515, with a length of 57.5 km (from Ba To commune to Kon Plong commune, Quang Ngai province), most of which passes through Violak pass, has the scale of a grade IVV mountainous road, and has not been invested in upgrading according to the plan.
The current status of this section is narrow, winding, steep continuously, many sections are damaged, especially the section through the pass that often has dense, prolonged fog, making it difficult for traffic, increasing travel time.
In particular, this road section has had a number of traffic accidents. From the above practice, the investment in upgrading the section Km32Km89+515, National Highway 24 is extremely necessary and urgent.
According to the Department of Construction, the budget of Quang Ngai province is currently facing many difficulties. In the period of 2021-2025, the province has prioritized focusing resources to complete important transport infrastructure projects with inter-regional connectivity, serving socio-economic development.
In the period of 20262030, with the funding announced by the Central Government, Quang Ngai province will continue to balance capital sources to implement medium-term public investment, including component sub-projects such as compensation, site clearance, resettlement support (Quang Ngai - Kon Tum expressway project, North - South high-speed railway...).
Due to many limitations in local budget sources, Quang Ngai province continues to report to competent authorities for consideration and support from the central budget with a target for local budgets, with a total cost of VND2,350 billion to invest in upgrading the section Km32Km89+515, National Highway 24.
This is to ensure the rapid increase in travel, trade and transportation needs of people, businesses, civil servants and public employees, contributing to ensuring traffic safety and order and social security.
