National Highway 51 shortens repair time to 100 days

Dong Nai - The repair and upgrade of National Highway 51 agrees to shorten the construction time to 100 days.

On April 23, the Road Planning, Construction Inspection and Maintenance Center (Dong Nai Provincial Department of Construction) said that it had worked with the contractor, agreeing to shorten the repair and upgrade time of National Highway 51 from 120 construction days to 100 days.

According to the initial contract, the repair and upgrade of National Highway 51 started from March 2026, and is expected to be completed in June 2026.

To shorten the road construction time, the contractor is mobilizing a lot of manpower and nearly 200 machines and equipment to construct day and night; at the same time, fully equipping the system of traffic signs and signal lights; strengthening traffic regulation and diversion forces at congestion points; narrowing the scope of barriers, not constructing widely, and completing each section thoroughly.

Dong Nai also coordinates with functional sectors of Ho Chi Minh City to organize early and remote traffic diversion to guide vehicles to choose other traffic options, limiting concentration on National Highway 51.

Due to the fact that National Highway 51 is very seriously damaged and degraded, causing traffic unsafety, in 2026, Dong Nai plans to repair and upgrade the entire National Highway 51, the section passing through the province is 37 km long with a total cost of more than 660 billion VND. This is the largest synchronous repair and upgrade of National Highway 51 to date.

Previously, due to limited funding, the repair of National Highway 51 was temporary and unsynchronized.

The repair and upgrade of National Highway 51 is carried out by the province in 2 phases. In which phase 1 is constructing a 22 km long section, costing about 360 billion VND.

According to the Road Planning, Construction Inspection and Maintenance Center, National Highway 51 is more than 70 km long connecting from Dong Nai to Ho Chi Minh City and has a dense traffic volume (about 70,000 vehicles per day and night, 3 times higher than the design).

On National Highway 51, there are many industrial parks and seaports; currently, vehicles transporting raw materials for the construction of Long Thanh airport, Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway, Ben Luc - Long Thanh and many key traffic projects are circulating on National Highway 51.
