At the reception of support for overcoming the consequences of storm No. 3 and post-storm floods from international organizations held today (September 18), Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Hoang Hiep expressed his gratitude to the Ambassadors and international organizations for sharing, supporting and accompanying the Vietnamese people.
"The Vietnamese government has made great efforts and given strong direction, but the storm has left behind enormous damage. Up to now, Vietnam's economic damage is about 2 billion USD and could reach 2.5 billion USD. However, the number is nothing compared to the long-term consequences after the storm. It will take a long time to restore infrastructure and people's lives. Therefore, the support and sharing of other countries for us at this time is especially important.
Currently, we have received a lot of support from cash to goods, more than 200 tons of goods alone have been received and promptly delivered to localities. In addition, we will continue to assess the damage and needs to coordinate accurately and quickly inform countries and international organizations" - Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Hiep shared.
At the ceremony, Mr. Sandeep Arya - Ambassador of India - said: "India is also a country that has been heavily affected by storms and floods. Therefore, we have closely coordinated with localities to promptly support Vietnam to overcome the consequences of storm No. 3".
Sharing with Vietnam the heavy damage after Typhoon No. 3 Yagi, the Indian Embassy donated 1 million USD, New Zealand supported 1 million NZD (equivalent to 620 thousand USD). In addition, Vietnam also received 1 million pounds (equivalent to 1.3 million USD) from the British Embassy. The United Nations also supported cash and essential goods for Vietnam.
Previously, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development also received 2 million USD from the Australian Government including relief goods and cash; received 1.2 million USD including essential goods and support from experts. All shipments have been delivered to localities affected by the storm.
