The Dong Dang - Tra Linh Expressway project has a total length of 121km, invested in two phases with a total investment of nearly VND23,000 billion. The route passes through the two provinces of Lang Son and Cao Bang, of which phase 1 is over 93km long, and is considered one of the expressway projects with the most difficult construction conditions today.
According to records, the entire phase 1 route has up to 64 overpasses, spanning the Ky Cung River, Bang Giang River and many streams and provincial roads. The harsh terrain, the Karst geological foundation (complex Caster cave limestone) and the prolonged flood situation, unusual developments have created many challenges for the construction process.

On December 17, at the construction site, more than 3,000 officers, engineers and workers were working busily, they spread out hundreds of construction teams, drilled mountains, opened roads, and accelerated the project's progress.
Phase 1 of the expressway has two tunnel crossings, That Khe tunnel and Dong Khe tunnel, named after locations associated with the Border Campaign of 22.
In the Dong Khe tunnel area (nearly 500m long), construction teams are focusing on completing the retaining wall, drainage system, mechanical roof, square area and road connecting the two tunnel gates. Many items such as the outer pressing rack of the tunnel shell and tunnel cleaning are also being implemented simultaneously.

At Km58, Dong Khe commune, the asphalt paving line is maintained continuously day and night, with an output of about 2,000 tons per day.
During the "sprint" period, construction units worked all night, without days off to speed up and make up for the progress affected by the weather.
Talking to reporters, Mr. Hoang Duc Tho - Director of the Cao Bang Provincial Traffic Project Management Board said that the construction unit is striving to asphalt 20km of the road on the project by December 19.
"Currently, the units are reinforcing the carpets day and night. The rain for 2 days has affected the paving progress, and the brothers are working overtime at night," said Mr. Tho.

According to the plan, before December 19, phase 1 of the project strives to complete the entire roadbed and road surface on the main route of about 85/9km, except for some locations affected by floods and additional bridges. Along with that is 20km of paved road.
This is considered an important milestone, creating a premise for the Dong Dang - Tra Linh expressway to soon promote effective connectivity, promoting the socio-economic development of the Northeast region.
