Previously, on the afternoon of May 18, Mr. Son Thanh Tung in Thanh Phu commune (My Xuyen district, Soc Trang province) was driving a truck with a crane, carrying 12 concrete piles moving on Provincial Road 940. When arriving at Phuoc An hamlet (My Thuan commune, My Tu district, Soc Trang province), Mr. Tung let the car run across the iron bridge and suddenly the bridge collapsed on one side.
The incident did not cause any human casualties but caused traffic congestion. Local authorities must implement a temporary ferry plan to regulate traffic.

Immediately after the incident, the local authorities worked with the vehicle owner. The owner commits to covering all costs for repairs and temporary ferry implementation costs while waiting for repairs.
The People's Committee of My Tu district has also hired a consulting unit specializing in iron bridges in Can Tho city to assess the damage and propose solutions to overcome and repair them.
After nearly 1 month, the repair and restoration work was completed. Currently, the local government has allowed people and vehicles to travel through the bridge; the authorities continue to monitor the bridge's load-bearing capacity to promptly handle any signs of abnormality.

Information from the Department of Economy, Infrastructure and Urban Areas of My Tu district said that the total cost of repairs and solutions is nearly 200 million VND, not including the costs arising from the temporary implementation of the ferry while waiting for repairs. All of the above costs are borne by the vehicle owner.
