Ho Chi Minh City has just adjusted and supplemented the public investment plan for 2025, in which nearly 200 billion VND was allocated to the project to expand the road connecting the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway (from An Phu intersection to Ring Road 2).
The Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board - investor) said that after being allocated capital, the project will start construction in September 2025.
The project has a total length of 3.2 km, with a total investment of more than 915 billion VND from the Ho Chi Minh City budget.
In terms of scale, the route will be expanded from 4 to 8 lanes. In which, the road surface will be expanded on both sides, each side will be 4.75 m, bringing the total width to 36 m.
The bridge section, including Muong Kenh Bridge and Do Xuan Hop Overpass, will also be expanded on both sides, each side 5.25 m, raising the total width of the bridge to 37 m.

This project is of special significance when combined with major traffic projects being implemented such as An Phu intersection and My Thuy intersection, creating a complete, interconnecting network, improving connectivity capacity for the entire eastern area of Ho Chi Minh City.
Thereby, not only serving the travel needs of the people but also contributing to promoting the effectiveness of national highways, beltways and inter-regional connectivity, especially with Long Thanh International Airport in the near future.

In parallel with the expansion of the approach road, the Government is also promoting the expansion of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway.
Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha has approved the investor - Vietnam Expressway Corporation (VEC) to carry out emergency investment procedures, starting construction on August 19. The project is expected to be basically completed in 2026.
The Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway expansion project is 21 km long, stretching from Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 2 to the intersection with Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway.
In particular, the section from Ring Road 2 to Ring Road 3 will be expanded to 8 lanes; the section from Ring Road 3 to the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway intersection will be upgraded to 10 lanes.
The total investment capital of the project is up to VND 15,720 billion, including interest costs during the construction period, all mobilized by VEC.

Previously, the 55 km long Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway was put into operation in 2015 with a scale of 4 lanes, becoming a vital traffic axis connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the Southeast and Central Highlands regions.
However, after 10 years of operation, traffic volume has continuously increased, especially the section from An Phu intersection to Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway intersection, which is often overloaded, exceeding 25% of the designed capacity.
It is expected that by 2026, when Long Thanh International Airport Phase 1 comes into operation, if it is not expanded, this expressway will not be able to meet travel needs.
