Ho Chi Minh City will build a 78km long Saigon River road, with a scale of 4-8 lanes, connecting from Cu Chi to Can Gio. In the immediate future, invest in the section from Ba Son Bridge to Saigon Bridge.

On March 14, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport said that the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has assigned the task of preparing a proposal for the Saigon River road section, from Ba Son Bridge to Saigon Bridge.

The route is nearly 2km long, 31 - 33m wide, connecting from Ton Duc Thang Street (District 1) to Tan Cang area (Binh Thanh District), passing through two high-end residential areas Saigon Pearl and Vinhomes. This project is expected to have a total investment of about 1,800 billion VND.

When completed, this route will not only create a new direction from Saigon Bridge to the central area, but also help people easily access the riverside space, because many sections of the riverbank are internal roads.

Currently, some sections of the route have been developed by investors with a width of 15m to 30m, but traffic is still not smooth.

This riverside road is part of the overall Saigon Riverside route of 78.2km, starting from the border of Tay Ninh province and ending at the intersection of Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway with Rung Sac road (Can Gio district).

This route has been included in the Ho Chi Minh City Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050.

According to the plan, the route will have a minimum scale of 4 to 8 lanes for motor vehicles, and will have lanes dedicated to bicycles and light urban rail lines connecting from the city center to Cu Chi district.

Ho Chi Minh City expects the construction of the Saigon River Road to not only open up new development directions for urban areas but also facilitate trade, services and tourism. The route also contributes to beautifying the riverside landscape, attracting domestic and foreign tourists.

In terms of traffic, this route will become an important connection axis between districts and towns along the North - South corridor, from District 12, Hoc Mon district, Cu Chi to the city center, as well as connecting Can Gio district, Nha Be and District 7.

In addition, the route also connects with key traffic routes such as Ring Road 2, Ring Road 3, Ring Road 4, Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway, along with National Highways 13, 22, Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway, Ho Chi Minh City - Chon Thanh Expressway. Thanks to that, the efficiency of traffic exploitation in the area will be improved, contributing to the completion of the city's traffic system.

Not only helping to improve urban transport infrastructure, the Saigon River road also plays an important role in strengthening regional connectivity between Ho Chi Minh City and the provinces of Binh Duong and Tay Ninh. This helps reduce pressure on existing national highways and creates more favorable conditions for inter-regional economic development.
