HCMC widens road to 30m, relieves traffic jams in Thu Duc

HCMC - Nguyen Thi Dinh Street (from Giong Ong To Bridge to My Thuy Bridge) was expanded from 7 - 8m to 30m, with a total investment of about 2,075 billion VND.

On the morning of April 26, Thu Duc City People's Committee started the project to upgrade and expand Nguyen Thi Dinh Street (from Giong Ong To Bridge to My Thuy Bridge).

The project hopes to relieve traffic pressure, increase connectivity in the Cat Lai port area and promote urban development in the East of Ho Chi Minh City.

The expanded road is nearly 2km long, with the starting point adjacent to the Giong Ong To bridge construction project and the intersection at both ends of the bridge, the end point connecting to Dong Van Cong road.

According to the design, the road surface will be upgraded from the current status of 7 - 8m to 30m, accommodating 6 lanes for traffic.

The total investment capital of the project is 2,075 billion VND, of which more than 1,781 billion VND is for compensation and site clearance. The construction and installation part is about 294 billion VND, the rest is the cost of project management, relocation of technical infrastructure and other auxiliary items such as drainage systems, lighting, trees, traffic signals, technical expressways, etc.

Vice Chairman of Thu Duc City People's Committee Nguyen Bach Hoang Phung said that up to now, more than 80% of households within the project area have handed over the site, creating favorable conditions for construction.

When completed, the route will not only solve traffic congestion but also increase connectivity, shorten the freight transport distance between the urban center and major traffic units such as Cat Lai port and Phu Huu port, said Mr. Nguyen Bach Hoang Phung.

The construction period is expected to be 14 months, completed in June 2026. The Thu Duc City Construction Investment Project Management Board is committed to closely coordinating with relevant units to promptly handle problems to ensure progress.

The project to expand Nguyen Thi Dinh Street (from Giong Ong To Bridge to My Thuy Bridge) was approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council in 2015 with a total capital of VND1,400 billion, including site clearance and construction.

However, the project has not been constructed for many years due to land clearance problems. At the end of 2023, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council adjusted the project investment policy to VND2,075 billion (mainly due to increased site clearance costs).

Nguyen Thi Dinh Street is a vital route towards Cat Lai Port - where there is a high density of freight transport vehicles. The road expansion to 30 m is expected to meet the increasing traffic demand and reduce pressure on the regional traffic infrastructure.

In addition to this project, Thu Duc City is also simultaneously implementing many other key infrastructure projects such as Ring Road 3, An Phu intersection, My Thuy intersection, Tang Long bridge, etc.
