Hanoi - Vietnam affirms its determination to act for a smoke-free sky, for a green - healthy future for all people.

On the morning of November 1, at the Hoan Kiem Lake walking street space, the Central Propaganda Department coordinated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the Hanoi People's Committee, UNDP and WHO to organize the event "Clean Air for a Blue Sky - Clean Air for a Blue Sky".

The event is an activity to implement the policies and guidelines of the Party and State on environmental protection, demonstrating the determination of Vietnam and the international community in striving to improve air quality and raise social awareness.

Globalally, air pollution is currently one of the leading causes of cardiovascular disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, respiratory diseases and many other dangerous diseases, seriously affecting human health. This situation also leads to a decline in quality of life, labor productivity and great damage to the economy as well as social security.

Like many cities in the world, Vietnam, especially Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, are facing increasing levels of air pollution. The main causes include: emissions from transportation, construction activities, industrial production, garbage burning and urban activities.

At the event, Mr. Le Cong Thanh, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment, said that the Ministry is focusing on implementing air quality management nationwide, especially in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Solutions include increasing monitoring, warning, sharing information with the community, strictly controlling emission sources, at the same time, promoting the development of green transportation, clean industry, and smart urban infrastructure management to reduce pollution.

In the Northern region, weather and terrain factors also contribute to the seriousness of pollution, especially in the capital Hanoi.

Mr. Nguyen Manh Quyen, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee affirmed that Hanoi is committed to continuing to pioneer in air pollution management and control, persistent in the goal of building a green - clean - beautiful - livable capital, where all people can breathe a safe and healthy atmosphere.

Within the framework of the event's activities, delegates witnessed the ceremony of connecting data from air sensors to the national monitoring system - a step with modern technological and management significance, helping people access information about air quality every day.

Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department Huynh Thanh Dat emphasized: To have a clean air, it is not only necessary to have the right policies but also the cooperation of the whole society. Each citizen needs to be self-conscious and voluntarily change habits - from planting more and protecting, taking care of trees, using public transport, limiting garbage burning to choosing green products... Agencies and businesses need to proactively invest in clean technology, developing renewable energy, towards a sustainable production and consumption model."

According to the Central Propaganda Department, improving air quality is also an important factor in helping Vietnam attract investment and develop a "green market", aiming for net zero emissions by 2050.
