The Mo Cay Bridge project is part of a project to improve the clearance of road bridges across the national inland waterway - phase 1 (Southern area) is facing land clearance problems in Quarter 5 (Mo Cay town, Mo Cay Nam district, Ben Tre province).
As a household affected by the project, Mr. Nguyen Van Hung said that the total compensation for his land and house is about 800 million VND.
"This amount of money is not enough for me to buy land and rebuild a house, while the authorities also did not consider approving my family to buy resettlement land. For that reason, I have not yet handed over the site to the contractor for the above project, said Mr. Hung.
Mr. Hung said that his family has a total of 6 members, the recovered land area is more than 68 m2, the remaining 40 m2 is outside the project boundary, not enough for the family to live on.
"I hope that the authorities will review and have a reasonable solution so that people can settle down and make a living," said Mr. Hung.
Similarly, Mr. Truong Thanh Nhan (residing in Quarter 5, Mo Cay Town) said that he had previously proposed to buy a resettlement plot but it had not been resolved. Therefore, his family has not yet handed over the site to the investor to construct the project.
"Recently, I continued to petition the authorities of Mo Cay Nam district to request the purchase of a resettlement plot. They promised to consider it in the near future, but there is still no official document, said Mr. Nhan.

Talking to Lao Dong, Mr. Cao Xuan Linh - representative of the project investor - said that the Mo Cay bridge project started construction on March 19, 2024. Up to now, this project is about 40% behind schedule compared to the set plan.
According to Mr. Linh, the reason for the project's delay is due to land clearance problems, so the current construction volume has only reached about 18% of the contract value.
"The slow site clearance work is affecting the project's construction progress, especially the section in Quarter 5 (Mo Cay town, Mo Cay Nam district, Ben Tre province).
In the coming time, the investor hopes that the People's Committee of Mo Cay Nam district will speed up the site clearance progress, and hand over the remaining part in April 2025 to the contractor for construction. If the site handover progress is even slower, the project is at risk of not being completed by the end of 2025," said Mr. Linh.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters over the phone on March 27, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Hung - Vice Chairman of Mo Cay Nam District People's Committee - said that the Mo Cay Bridge project is invested by the Waterway Project Management Board (Ministry of Construction), the total number of affected households is 119 households. Currently, the site has been cleared for 102 households and handed over to the construction contractor.
Mr. Hung said that 118 households have agreed to the compensation and support plan, only one household has not agreed to the compensation and land and house support plan.
"For the remaining households that have not yet handed over the land, it is because they have not been granted resettlement, and the locality is carrying out procedures to hand it over to the people soon," said Mr. Hung.
According to Mr. Hung, for households that have not agreed to the compensation and support plan for land and houses, in the coming time, the District People's Committee will work directly to resolve opinions and recommendations for the last time. If the land allocation is mobilized without complying, the land will be forcibly reclaimed.
