Growing after 70 years
Hanoi City accounts for 1% of the country's area and 8.5% of its population, but contributes 16% of the country's GDP. Up to now, the average GRDP per capita has reached nearly 6,350 USD, more than 130 times higher than in 1954. The urban appearance is increasingly spacious and modern. Politics and society are stable, national defense and security continue to be maintained; foreign relations and international integration are expanded.
Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh said that right after the Liberation Day of the Capital (October 10, 1954), the Party Committee, government and people of Hanoi made efforts and determination to rebuild the capital, boost production and restore economic and social life. Entering the period of renovation, Hanoi has made strong and comprehensive changes, achieving many achievements in all aspects of economic and social life.
"The capital Hanoi, with its role as the national political and administrative nerve center, the heart of the whole country; a major center of economy, culture, education and training, science and technology, and international integration. Hanoi's development orientation will become a smart, modern, fast-growing, sustainable urban area with a spreading power to promote the development of the region and the whole country" - Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Tran Sy Thanh emphasized.
Smart, modern city
Hanoi is currently promoting digital transformation towards building the capital into a green, smart, modern, and unique urban area, creating development momentum, having spillover effects, and connecting the northern urban area and the whole country.

According to MSc. Nguyen Hoa Cuong - Deputy Director of the Central Institute for Economic Management, in terms of digital transformation, Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW on digital transformation, building a smart Hanoi by 2025, with a vision to 2030, clearly states the goal that by 2030, Hanoi will basically become a smart, modern city, gradually connecting with the smart urban network in the region and the world.
The city has achieved some encouraging results such as: In the health sector, 100% of health insurance medical examination and treatment facilities have connected medical examination and treatment data and health insurance payments with the City Social Insurance Agency through an electronic appraisal system to ensure publicity and transparency; in the tourism sector, 27 destinations have been digitized using 360 technology... In addition, the city has many action programs on green transformation.
“It can be seen that, although digital transformation and green transformation are top priorities in the city's development policy, these two processes still take place separately, in parallel, and have not been integrated and connected at the policy level,” said MSc. Nguyen Hoa Cuong.
From this reality, the Deputy Director of the Central Institute for Economic Management suggested some solutions for Hanoi. Accordingly, organizations and communities need to promote research and innovation, and provide funding to promote the use of digital technology to combat climate change and environmental pollution; it is necessary to build support policies and a transparent legal environment for the business activities of digital platforms such as scrap suppliers, recyclers, collectors, etc.
According to Dr. Architect Truong Van Quang - Vietnam Urban Planning and Development Association, to build a smart Hanoi according to the established strategies, "there is still much to do". To implement the strategy of building a smart city, it is necessary to innovate the urban structure model. In addition, building and developing a TOD compact urban model associated with providing a modern, convenient urban public transport system, integrating smart technology, and encouraging the use of renewable energy (electric vehicles, trains, etc.).
At the National Celebration of the 70th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024), General Secretary To Lam said that the Party and State hope that the capital Hanoi will continue to make more efforts to become an exemplary model, a source of pride for the people and soldiers of the whole country. Develop the capital Hanoi as "Cultured - Civilized - Modern", soon becoming a globally connected city, deeply integrated, highly competitive with the region and the world; people have a high standard of living and quality of life; the economy, culture, and society develop uniquely and harmoniously, truly being the center of convergence, crystallization of the culture of the whole country, civilization of humanity; having a level of development on par with the capitals of developed countries in the region and the world.
