In today's session (December 10), the National Assembly will consider and approve many important draft laws, including the Press Law (amended).

In the current period, the press is not only a tool for information transmission but also plays a leading role in orienting information, spreading human values and contributing to eliminating false and bad and toxic information in cyberspace.

Building a team of journalists with strong political courage

One of the important goals of the revised Press Law is to build a team of journalists with strong political will that plays an important role in protecting the Party's ideological foundation, maintaining national security and stabilizing society.

Sharing about this issue, Director of the Press Department - Mr. Luu Dinh Phuc, said: "The political courage of journalists is not only shown through maintaining their views, but also through always fighting to protect the truth, refuting false and distorted information. We need to ensure that every journalist is a soldier on the ideological front, not only reporting news but also orienting public opinion".

The revised Press Law has required press agencies to strengthen the work of protecting the Party's ideological foundation. This requires journalists to have a deep awareness of their responsibility in contributing to the cause of protecting the country and building a developed society.

Improving the professional skills and expertise of the press team

The revised Press Law emphasizes the need to update new professional skills of the press team in the context of rapidly changing media, with the emergence of digital journalism, multimedia media and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in content production.

Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man shared his views: The press is an important foundation of information society. In the context of the strong development of technology, the task of the press is not only to provide information but also to ensure its quality and reliability. The team of journalists needs to be fully equipped with skills and moral qualities to maintain this role.

One of the requirements of the revised Press Law is to add regulations requiring reporters and editors to participate in training courses on journalism and professional ethics before being granted a journalist card.

Delegate Pham Van Hoa (Dong Thap Delegation) said that the State's legitimate press agencies need to orient and guide information on cyberspace and if they discover bad, fabricated, defamatory, untrue information, they must post and refute it promptly.

National Assembly delegate Le Thu Ha said: "Artificial intelligence and new technologies will help the press improve the quality and efficiency of work".

This amendment to the Press Law also focuses on this issue when clearly stipulating that press agencies must apply new technology, especially AI, to produce content to help create quality communication products that are attractive to readers, especially the younger generation who are using the internet and social networks.

Technology tools will also help journalists control and check the accuracy of information, prevent the spread of false information, and are also tools to detect and eliminate bad and toxic information, contributing to protecting the information environment in cyberspace.

Improving the efficiency of press activities in cyberspace

Speaking with Lao Dong, Delegate Be Minh Duc (Cao Bang Delegation) proposed to specifically regulate the types of online services that press agencies are allowed to provide. At the same time, add a mechanism to protect press content, requiring private platforms when reusing press content to ensure to maintain the status quo and restore identification value to the press.

cyberspace journalism is a pillar in national information management, correct adjustment will help protect the value of legitimate journalism, create a fair information market and ensure that Vietnamese journalism has enough resources to carry out the mission of guiding public opinion in the digital age, the delegate emphasized.

Many opinions also raised some opinions suggesting the need for legal binding measures to require cross-border platforms (such as Google, Facebook, TikTok, etc.) to pay copyright fees and share revenue with Vietnamese press agencies. In particular, the protection of press copyright in cyberspace needs to be regulated more specifically, avoiding illegal and widespread copying on social networks that is greatly affecting copyright and information transparency.

At the session to explain and clarify a number of issues raised by National Assembly deputies on November 24, Party Central Committee member and Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung emphasized that opinions expressed the hope that the promulgated law should promptly institutionalize the Party's viewpoints and guidelines and the State's policies on journalism.

Spreading human values

The press always plays an important role in orienting information, affecting public awareness and action. National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man shared: In the digital information era, the press needs to take the lead in preventing misinformation and protecting the Party's ideological foundation. The role of the press is not only to provide information, but also to protect the truth and stability of society".

The mainstream press, with a team of journalists who are strong in political and professional spirit, needs to play a leading role in detecting, preventing and eliminating false and harmful information. To do this, press agencies need to use modern technology to control information, while promoting the role of orientation, providing accurate and timely information.

This amendment to the Press Law is an important step to develop Vietnamese journalism. To do this, the team of journalists needs to be fully equipped with political courage, solid professionalism and master technology. The press must maintain its leading role in orienting information, spreading human values and protecting society from false and bad and toxic information, contributing to sustainable development in the new era.
