Da Nang fined 1.25 million VND for a group of people who brazenly cut down "forest cages" in Son Tra peninsula, an act condemned by the online community for encroaching on special-use forests.

The Son Tra - Ngu Hanh Son Inter-district Forest Protection Department (Da Nang City) announced that it had issued a decision to administratively fine a group of people who arbitrarily cut down forest trees on Son Tra peninsula VND 1.25 million.

Previously, on the afternoon of August 7, a post appeared on social media from Facebook account V.C reflecting a group of 5-6 people riding motorbikes and pickup trucks blatantly cutting down a sardine hut (also known as a wild grape) in the area near InterContinental Resort - Ho Sau, Son Tra Peninsula, to reap fruit.

Although passersby reminded that cutting down trees in Son Tra special-use forest is a violation of the law, this group still ignored and continued to harvest. This behavior was strongly condemned by the online community for damaging the ecosystem, affecting the natural food sources of many wild animals, including brown-legged rhinopods - a rare Primitive species that needs to be strictly protected in Son Tra peninsula.

Immediately after receiving the information, the Son Tra - Ngu Hanh Son Inter-district Forest Protection Department verified and issued a fine. The representative of the unit said that they will strengthen inspection and supervision, while promoting propaganda to raise awareness of special-use forest protection in the community.
