On June 15, Mr. Le Duc Tien - Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee confirmed that after receiving feedback from people and Lao Dong Newspaper about the pollution caused by dust from the Quang Tri Airport project, Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee requested relevant units to urgently implement environmental protection measures during the project implementation.
According to Mr. Le Duc Tien, to ensure the progress of putting the project into operation in July 2026 but still maintaining the living environment for the residential area, the leaders of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee assigned the Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board to closely coordinate with Quang Tri Airport Co., Ltd. to strengthen on-site supervision; the contractor organizes scientific construction, strictly complying with environmental protection measures according to the approved Environmental Impact Assessment Report.
At the same time, the Department of Agriculture and Environment is assigned to preside over and coordinate with agencies and localities to strengthen inspection and supervision of compliance with environmental protection regulations at the construction site.
Mr. Le Van Thong - Chairman of Cua Viet Commune People's Committee said that construction units have proactively slowed down vehicles, increased the frequency of watering to reduce dust regularly. However, due to the very large construction area of the airport, when encountering strong winds, it is still difficult to avoid the phenomenon of dust generation. Cua Viet Commune People's Committee will monitor to have timely recommendations.
Living right next to the affected area, Ms. Tran Thi Thang (residing in Nhi Ha village, Cua Viet commune) said that after the press reflected, from June 9 to June 14, the amount of dust spreading into people's houses decreased by more than 50% compared to before. But at noon on June 15, dust again "attacked" her house and surrounding households, making the air around the area suffocating.
On the management unit's side, the Quang Tri Airport Project Management Board said that it has requested construction contractors to drive slowly during the transportation of filling soil. However, on hot sunny days and strong Lao winds, dust control is very difficult. Currently, the unit has continuously arranged 7 specialized vehicles to take turns watering along service roads to minimize dust flying into residential areas.
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper had articles "Quang Tri airport project construction causes dust, people's houses near the construction site are suffocating" and "Living miserably due to polluted dust spreading from the construction site of Quang Tri airport" reflecting the situation that for about 1 month now, dust has arisen densely, covering people's houses around the construction site of the Quang Tri airport project.
Faced with this situation, people have to close their doors all day, and businesses are sluggish. Every day, despite cleaning many times, dust appears thick, and some households have to take young children elsewhere to avoid dust.
