According to a report from the Traffic Police Department, Khanh Hoa Provincial Police, from March 2025 to present, there have been 3 accidents on Khanh Le Pass. All incidents involved passenger vehicles, injuring more than 10 people and damaging 7 cars.
Most recently, on July 14, a series of collisions between 4 cars at Km40+300 caused the passenger bus to lose its brakes. Although there were no casualties, all vehicles were severely damaged.
The main causes of accidents are drivers lacking attention to observation, encroaching on lanes, recklessly overtaking, and being subjective when going down the pass.
To ensure safety when traveling through Khanh Le Pass, the Traffic Police Department of Khanh Hoa Provincial Police recommends that drivers carefully check their vehicles before the trip such as: Tires, tires, lighting, cooling water, fuel, etc.
During the day, drivers drive slowly, at the right speed, and observe the signs. From 1pm onwards, fog often appears, so turn on the underpass and near spotlights to make it easy to identify.
When going down the pass, reduce the number to slow the engine, limit the use of continuous brakes to avoid brake failure. For automatic transmission vehicles, switch the gear lever to L mode or semi-autonomous, keeping a safe distance.
Before entering the crab, slow down completely with brakes and reduce the number, then exit the crab to increase the acceleration slightly if conditions allow. Absolutely do not recklessly overtake or encroach on lanes even though they are clear on the road.
If you lose the brakes, keep calm, to the lowest limit, gently pull the handbrake, point the vehicle towards the side of the road, the positive slope or a natural obstacle to slow down.
When forced to stop a vehicle, turn on the emergency lights or place warning signs 50-100m away so that other vehicles can recognize it.
Currently, the Traffic Police Department of Khanh Hoa Provincial Police is increasing patrols and handling fines.
Each driver needs to raise awareness, strictly comply with traffic laws, not be subjective, not reckless, and contribute to ensuring safety on this steep, dangerous pass.
