In 2019, Bugatti announced that it would stop pursuing speed records. However, with changes in the management board and new goals of the company, the newly established Bugatti Rimac joint venture has continuously had car lines breaking other records.
The Bugatti Mistral, currently the fastest convertible in the world; 2 Bugatti Veyron models and 1 Bugatti Chiron model have also set previous records. Recently, for the first time, these 4 cars have been shown together.
According to Motor1, the maximum total capacity of these 4 cars is up to 5,520 horsepower from an 8-liter quad-turbo engine. The Veyron coupe reached a speed of 431.07 km/h, while the Grand Sport Vitesse convertible version reached 408.84 km/h. The Bugatti Chiron can reach speeds of up to 490.48 km/h with the coupe and 453.91 km/h with the Mistral.
With the new V16 engine on Tourbillon, the company still has the ambition to reach a maximum speed of 500 km/h. Bugatti CEO Mate Rimac is discussing with Michelin about developing tires that will allow Bugatti to make history once again. However, this will take more time as the replacement for the Bugatti Chiron will not be produced until 2026.
In addition, even with the right tire, reaching a speed of 500 km/h is not easy because Bugatti is not currently part of the Volkswagen Group, so it has lost the right to use the Ehra-Lessien test track - where the Veyron and Chiron models have set a record.
