On June 23, information from Can Tho Hematology and Blood Transfusion Hospital said that based on the actual situation, from the beginning of April 2025 to now, the amount of blood received has decreased significantly, reaching only about 60% compared to the registered number.
The reason is that the work of propaganda, mobilization, and organization of voluntary blood donation in localities (partly influenced by the local government organization 2) has encountered many difficulties.
To ensure a stable blood supply and promptly serve the emergency and treatment of patients in the Mekong Delta, Can Tho City Hematology and Blood Transfusion Hospital has a document on strengthening the mobilization and organization of voluntary blood donation.

The document was sent to the Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation Campaign, the Red Cross Society, the Department of Health, hospitals and medical centers of 11 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta.
Accordingly, Can Tho Hematology and Blood Transfusion Hospital hopes to receive close coordination and attention from units to strengthen propaganda, mobilization and organization of voluntary blood donation in the locality.
Units are interested, directing, and proposing to register to supplement the blood receipt schedule, aiming to increase at least 50% compared to the original plan, from now until the end of the year. Along with that is the reasonable, safe and effective use of blood in the process of emergency care and treatment for patients.
On June 20, the National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation also issued a document on ensuring the maintenance of voluntary blood donation mobilization.
Accordingly, the Standing Committee of the Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation Campaigning of provinces and centrally run cities continues to maintain the organization of voluntary blood donation Campaigning, continue to implement the target of mobilizing and receiving blood in 2025 at the National Steering Committee.
For provinces and cities that are merged, the 2025 quota will be calculated combined from the quota of provinces and cities that have not been merged; adjust and assign the quota for mobilization and receipt of blood to newly established communes, wards and special zones.
Units proactively coordinate with blood receiving facilities to mobilize agencies, units, businesses, and schools in the area to organize blood donation sessions, maintain voluntary blood donation schedules according to plan; guide communes, wards, and special zones to urgently develop a plan to organize blood donation, not to interrupt or limit the shortage of blood supply affecting emergency care and treatment of patients in the locality.
