Reader Nguyen Ngoc Danh said: "In 2017, I graduated from general medicine. In 2018-2020, I graduated with a master's degree in ophthalmology and worked at a general hospital with an ophthalmology department.
I applied for a certificate to practice ophthalmology, but the competent authority replied that I graduated with a master's degree, not a degree in ophthalmology, so I have not been granted an ophthalmology certificate.
"According to the new Law on Medical Examination and Treatment, a master's degree is recognized as a specialized degree and does not require practice time. So, if I work continuously in the eye department, do I need to practice again? If I do not need to practice again, what should I do to get a practice certificate?" - a reader asked.
Regarding this issue, the Ministry of Health responded as follows:
Currently, the diploma used to grant and supplement the scope of practice includes a master's degree in a health field (master's degree in ophthalmology, internal medicine...).
A person with the above diploma, when applying for a practice license, if the time from the time of application submission is more than 24 months, must practice to be granted or granted additional scope of practice.
