This is an important milestone in the roadmap for specialized technical development of Can Tho City General Hospital.
Accordingly, the first kidney removal and transplant was performed at the Hospital with the participation and coordination of experts from Hue Central Hospital. The implementation process was directly supervised by Prof. Dr. Pham Nhu Hiep, Director of Hue Central Hospital.

After more than 3 hours, the transplant was successful in the joy of both hospitals. Currently, the health of the transplanted pair has recovered well, the test indicators are gradually stabilizing and are being closely monitored at Can Tho City General Hospital.
Kidney transplantation for patients with end-stage chronic kidney failure from living donors and from brain-dead donors is a project that Can Tho City General Hospital has been nurturing for many years. On January 21, 2026, Can Tho City General Hospital was officially recognized by the Ministry of Health as a facility qualified to perform kidney extraction and transplantation techniques from living donors and from brain-dead donors according to Decision No. 208/QD-BYT.

Along with that, further improve the conditions for facilities, equipment, especially the capacity of the medical team, ensuring the regular implementation of kidney transplantation techniques, helping patients with end-stage chronic kidney failure in Can Tho City, as well as the Mekong Delta, to access this technique to reduce the burden of treatment costs and improve the quality of life.
