On March 23, according to information from the Nghe An Center for Disease Control (CDC), since the beginning of the year, the whole province has recorded 1,360 cases of suspected measles rash fever. Ky Son district has the highest number of pediatric patients, followed by Vinh city (more than 200 cases) and Tuong Duong district (more than 130 cases). In addition, suspected measles cases are scattered in many other localities.
The number of cases increased sharply from the end of February to mid-March, and has now slowed down and is basically under control. Most of the patients are children who have not been vaccinated or are not old enough to be vaccinated. Tests confirmed that 82 samples of the disease had 80 samples positive for measles virus. Of which, 69% of children are old enough but have not been vaccinated, 19,9% are vaccinated with 1 dose, and 8.8% are not yet vaccinated.
According to the Nghe An CDC, up to this point, the unit has provided 15,800 doses of measles vaccine and 40,300 doses of measles - rubella vaccine to serve two vaccination campaigns (phase 1 from March 6 and phase 2 from March 20, 2025).
Through screening, the whole province has 48,770 children subject to vaccination in this period, including: 13,886 children from 6 to under 9 months old; 13,160 children from 1 to 5 years old; 21,724 children from 6 to 10 years old.
In addition to providing vaccines to units, the CDC of Nghe An province has provided professional advice and guidance on measles prevention and expanded immunization, and campaign vaccination in the province, especially in areas with increased cases.
By March 22, the whole province had implemented measles vaccination, reaching 65.6% of the plan. Nghe An is speeding up vaccination every day of the week, determined to complete 95% before March 31.
According to Dr. Chu Trong Trang - Director of CDC Nghe An, Nghe An health sector is committed to ensuring adequate human resources, medicine, supplies, and equipment to be ready to respond to all situations; taking advantage of the participation of departments, branches, organizations, and prestigious people in the community to mobilize people to get children fully vaccinated.
At the same time, strengthen communication in high-risk groups such as educational institutions, boarding houses, and factories, especially in high mountainous areas and border areas, where vaccination progress is slow. Encourage people to overcome the fear of reacting after vaccination, taking their children to get vaccinated according to schedule.
Nghe An health sector will also establish surprise monitoring and inspection teams, strictly handling units and individuals who do not implement the vaccination campaign well.
