Can Tho - After bronchial endoscopy removed the foreign object, the man from Ca Mau remembered that he had forgotten sapoche seeds about 10 years ago.

On September 30, according to information from Can Tho Central General Hospital, doctors in the Department of Respiratory Affairs have endoscoped the bronchium and removed a foreign object, the sapoche seed (xyme pink) that has been neglected for many years.

The male patient (43 years old, from Ca Mau) had symptoms of hoarseness and wheezing for more than 10 years, had been examined in many places and was diagnosed with bronchial asthma. After treatment, the condition improved but the impetigo returned.

Recently, seeing a severe cough and many problems, the patient decided to go to the Respiratory Clinic, Can Tho General Hospital for examination. The doctor consulted and ordered the patient to be hospitalized for bronchial endoscopy to remove the foreign object.

After examination, combined with a chest CT scan, the patient showed a special mass lesion under the right lung, along with an image of a suspected foreign object in the bronchial cavity. The patient underwent a flexible bronchial endoscopy the same day.

Endoscopy results showed that the bronchial lining of the lower lung was severely inflamed, with many lumps. The doctor performed a dishwashing pump to clean the dishwasher.

After 20 minutes of endoscopy, MSc. Dr. Ly Phat and his team successfully removed the foreign object, the sapoche seed, located in the lobes under the right lung, the seed size was 17x 8 mm. The procedure ended successfully. The patient was stable after the procedure.

After knowing that the foreign object was Sapoche, the patient recalled and said: "About 10 years ago, I ate Sapoche choking, coughing about 2-3 days, then the symptoms were no longer severe, so the patient had forgotten."

Doctors expect the patient to be discharged in the next few days when antibiotic therapy is complete.

Dr. Cao Thi My Thuy - Head of the Department of Respiratory Affairs - said that this is a particularly difficult case when performing bronchial endoscopy. The reason is that the foreign object is in the bronchi for quite a long time, the inflammatory tissue is swollen and the location of the foreign object is very deep and lying across the bronchi.

The doctor also recommends that when eating nuts and seeded fruits such as sapoche, people need to be careful because they can choke seeds into the airway, endangering their lives. When there are symptoms of a lot of coughing, respiratory infections recur many times of unknown cause, patients must go to a deep respiratory facility to find the exact cause, treat, and avoid dangerous complications that may occur.
