At the 1st Congress of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee, term 2025 - 2030, Mr. Nguyen Hung Trang - Member of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Cao Lanh Ward - gave a speech on "Developing Cao Lanh Ward into a Center for high-quality health care and medical services of the province".
Cao Lanh ward was established under Resolution No. 1663/NQ-UBTVQH15 dated June 16, 2025 of the National Assembly Standing Committee on the basis of merging 9 communes and wards of Cao Lanh city (old), with a natural area of 73.33 km2 and a population of over 137,000 people. The ward is one of the central areas of Dong Thap province, playing an important role in socio-economic development and is home to many large medical facilities.

Currently, the ward has 4 hospitals, 1 medical center, 1 health station, 9 public health stations, more than 100 pharmacies and neighboring medical facilities, basically meeting the needs of medical examination, treatment and health care for local people and the area.
However, according to Mr. Trang, the medical infrastructure in the ward is not yet synchronous, some facilities are degraded, high-quality medical human resources, especially traditional medicine specialists are limited, specialized medical services are not rich, socialization is not strong, while the demand for modern medical examination and treatment, especially for cardiovascular diseases, stroke, and chronic diseases is increasing.
Therefore, the proposal to build and develop Cao Lanh ward to become a center for high-quality medical services and health care in Dong Thap province is a necessary and strategic task. This is also an important solution to improve the quality of medical examination, treatment and health care for people; affirming Dong Thap's position in the field of health services in the Mekong Delta region, aiming to build a modern, humane, effective and sustainable health system.

To realize that goal, Mr. Nguyen Hung Trang said that Cao Lanh ward will proactively call for investment to improve the quality of medical infrastructure; build a specialized hospital, especially in cardiology; develop Cao Lanh into a community health center; train and develop high-quality medical human resources.
In particular, in applying high technology to health care, the ward aims to complete electronic health records for all people, strongly developing remote medical examination and treatment services.
Cao Lanh Ward continues to promote the application of scientific and technological achievements in the health sector such as: Artificial Intelligence in medicine (AI); surgical robots; automation in testing; 3D Bi imprinting technology (Bioprinting); Big data-based preventive medicine... promote digitalization in pharmaceutical and medical equipment management; link and build a digital health ecosystem and a smart healthcare network in the community.
