When merging the three provinces of Nam Dinh, Ha Nam and Ninh Binh into the new Ninh Binh province, it will create an important advantage that contributes to promoting socio-economic development, in which, helping the locality promote inland waterway traffic.
Most recently, the People's Committee of Nam Dinh province (old) issued a decision approving the investment policy of the Nghia Hung Inland Water Port project (phase 1), with a total investment of more than VND 3,400 billion.


The goal of the Nghia Hung Inland Water Port Project (phase 1) is to build a modern port system to meet loading and unloading activities, warehouses and services to support waterway and road transportation. The main occupations include: loading and unloading goods, storing goods, support services for railway, waterway and road freight transport.
According to the decision, the project implementation location is in Nam Dien and Nghia Hai communes (Nghia Hung district, old Nam Dinh province), now Rang Dong commune and Nghia Lam commune (new Ninh Binh province). The project scale is about 89.4 hectares of land (of which construction land is about 77.1 hectares, Day River dyke protection corridor land is about 12.3 hectares) and 142.1 hectares of Day River water surface, with a designed capacity of about 10.15 million tons/year.

Nghia Hung Inland Water Port (phase 1) is located in Ninh Co Economic Zone (KKT), with an area of 13,950 hectares. Ninh Me Economic Zone is oriented to be a developed marine economic center with the function of supporting and supplementing other coastal Economic Zones, creating development momentum for the Red River Delta and the Gulf of Tonkin Economic Ring Road.
In addition, the transport infrastructure of the port area also has a developed axis road, connecting the Nam Dinh province's marine economic zone (old) with the Cau Gie - Ninh Binh expressway with a total investment of more than VND 5,000 billion and the coastal road section through Nam Dinh province (old) connecting with other provinces and cities; including Ninh Binh.
