Local garment companies find it difficult to recruit workers.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Ngo Quyet Thang, Chairman of the Trade Union of Industry and Trade of Bac Giang province, said that, up to now, garment enterprises in the Industry and Trade sector have just finished the production of winter garment orders (May, June, July, August). Currently, enterprises are entering the peak period (October, November, December) to prepare for summer orders next year.
“Garment enterprises are constantly recruiting workers. However, currently, recruitment is facing many difficulties because the majority of workers tend to prefer working in industrial zones,” said Mr. Ngo Duc Thang.
In industrial zones, there are many electronics companies with higher incomes than working in local garment companies. If working overtime at an electronics company, workers earn about 12 million VND/month, while with the same overtime hours, workers in garment companies earn about 9-10 million VND/month; if not working overtime, they earn about 7-8 million VND/month. "Therefore, there are many young workers who change jobs, and garment companies have to continuously recruit new workers to compensate," said Mr. Ngo Quyet Thang.
Currently, the Trade Union of Industry and Trade of Bac Giang province is managing 9 trade unions of garment enterprises with more than 14,000 workers.
Need to recruit 40,000 workers
Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters on October 13, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Son - Director of Bac Giang Province Employment Service Center - said that up to now, through data from 38 businesses connecting recruitment with the center, the total recruitment demand at the end of the year is about 40,000 workers. Of which, Hong Hai Science and Technology Group alone has a need to recruit 10,000 workers.
According to Mr. Son, the demand for labor recruitment is mainly in the field of electronics assembly. Garment enterprises have a smaller recruitment demand, with a number of thousands of employees. Enterprises mainly recruit unskilled workers (accounting for about 65% of the recruitment demand).
Regarding income, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Son said that in electronics enterprises, the income of employees is from 9-12 million VND/month; some positions that require higher ability and expertise have an income of 15-17 million VND/month. Employees in the garment industry have lower income than those in the electronics industry.
Recently, the Bac Giang Provincial Federation of Labor has directed trade unions at all levels to grasp the situation of enterprises implementing minimum wage adjustments according to Decree No. 74/2024/ND-CP dated June 30, 2024 of the Government. As a result, enterprises have implemented the minimum wage according to regulations, with some enterprises adjusting the wage increase higher than 13.4-34% of the level prescribed by the Decree.
Union members and workers are happy and excited when the Trade Union and the enterprise take care of the union meals, creating solidarity between the workers and the enterprise and the Trade Union. However, a number of workers and laborers continue to have concerns and worries about the situation of some enterprises facing difficulties, still owing social insurance, affecting the jobs and income of workers; hoping that authorities at all levels will continue to have effective solutions to promptly support businesses to stabilize production and business, create jobs, and improve income for workers.
