Warmth from the Trade Union Shelters
On the occasion of Workers' Month 2025, Lao Dong Newspaper reporters had the opportunity to travel with leaders of the Hoa Binh Provincial Federation of Labor to visit, encourage and give support money to build a "Union Shelter" house for the family of Ms. Bui Thi Giang (member of the Trade Union of Van Son Kindergarten, Lac Son district, Hoa Binh province).
Ms. Giang's family is a near-poor household with difficult economic conditions. Previously, her family had to live in a seriously degraded stilt house.
Understanding the situation of Ms. Giang's family, the Hoa Binh Provincial Federation of Labor mobilized resources to support Ms. Giang's family with 40 million VND to build a new house. With support from local authorities, trade unions and brothers and relatives, after 2 months of construction, the new solid and spacious house of Ms. Giang's family was completed and put into use to the happiness of her whole family.
In the new house that still smells of paint, Ms. Giang emotionally shared: I was very touched because I didnt think that the whole family would ever be able to live in a new, spacious house like this. I don't know what else to say, I would like to thank the trade unions at all levels for caring about my family. This is the motivation for me to continue to strive in labor and production.
For the family of Mr. Vi Van Duoc, (a union member at Toyota Hoa Binh Joint Stock Company), the Lunar New Year 2025 is perhaps the most memorable Tet for his family, when they celebrate Tet in a new, spacious house.
The family's house has an area of 70m2 built with a total value of more than 220 million VND, of which the "Union Shelter" fund is supported by the Vietnam Civil Servants' Union with 60 million VND. The new house was handed over right on the occasion of Tet, helping the family celebrate Tet in the new house and gradually stabilize their lives, work with peace of mind, and complete assigned tasks well. At the same time, actively participate in movements and activities launched by trade unions at all levels.
"For a long time, the whole family of 3 generations has had to live together in a dilapidated house that was unsafe. Every time it's rainy season, the whole family has to stay at relatives' houses, dreaming of having a solid house to settle down and make a living for my family is a distant thing. Now, thanks to the attention and support of the Trade Union at all levels, my family's long-standing dream has come true" - Mr. Duoc shared.
Mobilizing all resources to help workers settle down and make a living
Mr. Nguyen Duc Thuan - Vice Chairman in charge of the Hoa Binh Provincial Federation of Labor - said that the "Union Shelter" housing program has become one of the social activities with widespread influence, demonstrating the spirit of solidarity, mutual love and support, affirming the true family value of the Union organization. The program has truly brought practical results, contributing positively to eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses and realizing the dream of settling down for workers.
In reality, the housing needs of union members and workers in difficult circumstances are still very high, while the support funding source of the Trade Union organization is quite limited. Therefore, it is necessary to have the attention and support of all levels, sectors, business units, philanthropists... to contribute to bringing a stable life to employees - Mr. Thuan shared.
In the coming time, trade unions at all levels in Hoa Binh province will continue to mobilize and call on units, businesses, philanthropists... to join hands to support union members and workers with difficult housing circumstances so that more and more union members and workers can live in new, spacious and warm houses, contributing to sharing difficulties and adding motivation for them to overcome their circumstances, work with peace of mind, and complete their assigned tasks well.
In the first 6 months of 2025, the Provincial Federation of Labor has supported the construction of 6 new "Union Shelters" for families of union members and workers in difficult circumstances in the province, with a total cost of nearly 300 million VND.
