Trade Union accompanies people in disaster areas

In Ha Giang province, reporting to the working group, the provincial People's Committee leader said that as of September 11, the whole province had 2 dead and missing people, 1,200 houses were affected, of which 82 were completely washed away, nearly 2,000 hectares of rice and crops were damaged. The estimated value of damage was over 100 billion VND and could increase.

Meanwhile, storm No. 3 and its aftermath in Tuyen Quang have caused extensive damage. To date, the province has had 5 deaths, nearly 20,000 homes affected, 3,989 households evacuated from flood-prone areas; over 9,000 hectares of rice and crops were damaged, and many structures were submerged. Estimated damage is over VND500 billion.

Speaking at the meetings, President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang sympathized with Ha Giang and Tuyen Quang provinces for the loss of life and property caused by natural disasters, and highly appreciated the close attention and proactiveness of local authorities in responding to storms and floods, minimizing human losses.

“I believe that Ha Giang and Tuyen Quang provinces will continue to promote the spirit of solidarity, mutual love, and overcome the current difficulties. At the same time, we will promptly support the people and workers to stabilize their lives, quickly count the damage, focus on overcoming it, and report to the Central Government for timely support,” said President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang.

Based on the reports and proposals of the local labor federations, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has awarded 85 million VND to the Ha Giang Provincial Labor Federation and 150 million VND to the Tuyen Quang Provincial Labor Federation to directly support the laborers affected by the recent storm No. 3. When there are specific data and proposals from the local labor federations, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor will continue to provide timely support.

In Bac Me district (Ha Giang), witnessed by President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang, Ms. Phan Thu Thuy - Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Lao Dong Newspaper presented 500 million VND from the Golden Heart Social Charity Fund to Bac Me district to help people affected by natural disasters.

The leaders of Ha Giang and Tuyen Quang provinces respectfully expressed their thanks to the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, the Golden Heart Social Charity Fund and the industry unions for their support and sympathy for the people and workers affected by natural disasters. This is a timely encouragement for workers to overcome difficulties and stabilize their lives, while affirming that the support will be used for the right purposes and delivered directly to the affected families.

Timely support for union members and workers

President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang and the delegation of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor visited, encouraged and presented gifts to a number of Vietnamese workers' households whose houses were affected by natural disasters and floods in Bac Me district.

Ms. Ban Thi Phuong, a teacher at Giap Trung Kindergarten (Bac Me) had her house urgently damaged by landslides after the recent floods. Ms. Phuong and her husband have low incomes so they cannot repair it immediately. The timely encouragement and support from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor made her very emotional.

Ms. Ban said: "Recently, there was a landslide due to the storm and flood. My family was worried about how to repair it. Now that the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has visited us and has a support plan for the construction, I feel more confident."

Nearby, Mr. Nong Van Thanh’s house in Yen Phu town was also severely eroded and is in urgent need of evacuation. Mr. Thanh said: “Today, I was very touched to be visited and given a gift by the President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor. This is also the motivation for my family to overcome difficulties.”

Visiting, encouraging and giving gifts to the staff and workers of Tuyen Quang Urban Management and Environmental Services Joint Stock Company, Chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang said that after storms, floods and natural disasters, the environmental sanitation force is the hardest and most difficult with a large amount of work and working hours regardless of day or night.

“I understand that the company has mobilized 265 staff and workers to do post-flood cleaning. Of these, 250 staff and workers have houses affected by the flood, many of whom have not returned home to clean their houses. This is truly a sacrifice and effort for the common cause, so we need to pay attention and provide timely support to environmental staff and workers,” emphasized President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Nguyen Dinh Khang.
