Nearly 900 art performances, sports festivals
Mr. Nguyen Van Minh, a worker at Crown Da Nang Company (Hoa Khanh Industrial Park) shared: "After work, workers hope to have a place to play sports, socialize, and participate in cultural activities to relax and connect more.
Mr. Nguyen Van Minh's wish is also a practical need of tens of thousands of workers working in industrial parks in Da Nang. Workers need a stable job, a guaranteed income and legitimate rights. But after long shifts, they also need to rest, play, exercise, socialize and participate in community activities.
That is also the reason why for many years, caring for the spiritual life of workers has always been one of the contents that Da Nang Trade Union levels have paid attention to. In particular, in 10 years of implementing Directive No. 52-CT/TW dated January 9, 2016 of the Secretariat of the Party Central Committee on strengthening the Party's leadership in improving the spiritual life of workers in industrial parks and export processing zones, many activities have been organized with increasingly diverse scales.
In 10 years, Da Nang trade union levels have coordinated to organize nearly 900 art performances and sports festivals from grassroots level to city level. In grassroots and local trade unions alone, there are nearly 19,456 cultural and sports activities, attracting about 985,895 participants. Along with that, 5 trade union cultural activity points have been built at enterprises, especially in areas with a large concentration of workers in FDI enterprises. This is where workers can read books, learn about laws, interact and rest after work hours.
Create spaces for workers
If cultural and sports programs create playgrounds, the trade union institution system creates a long-term space to maintain those activities. Specifically, the worker housing of Hoa Cam Industrial Park phase 1 has been equipped with a legal bookshelf and a mini football field, badminton to serve workers and surrounding people.
Hoa Khanh Industrial Park Workers' Culture and Sports Center with a total investment of more than 4.5 billion VND has a multi-purpose hall, football, volleyball, badminton fields and is often a venue for activities for workers. The City Labor Culture House with a hall of 1,200 seats, a multi-purpose gymnasium and other living spaces is also promoting its role as an important institution of the Trade Union organization.
In the Dien Nam - Dien Ngoc area, the Labor Culture House with a 500-seat hall, badminton court, volleyball court and outdoor gym continues to expand the living space for the worker community. Notably, from the proposal of the City Labor Federation, the City People's Council has approved the policy of investing in the Eastern Labor Culture House of the city with a total estimated investment of 52 billion VND. When completed, the project will serve the living needs of workers in the An Hai, Son Tra and surrounding areas.
Mr. Le Van Dai - Standing Vice Chairman of Da Nang City Labor Federation - said: In the coming time, Da Nang Trade Union determines to continue to diversify cultural, sports, and artistic activities, and at the same time mobilize more social resources to invest in facilities to serve workers.
We determine that caring for workers cannot just stop at material support when they are in difficulty. A good life also needs meaningful rest hours, healthy playgrounds, meeting places and activities to help workers feel like they are part of the community.
When workers are cared for both materially and spiritually, the benefits are not only for each worker. That is also the foundation for them to become more attached to the business, to the Trade Union organization and to the city where they are working and living" - Mr. Dai said.
