On August 19, the People's Committee of Can Tho City coordinated with Aranya Vietnam Joint Stock Company to organize a groundbreaking ceremony for the Housing Project in the Trade Union Institution Area in An Nghiep Industrial Park (Soc Trang Ward).
This is one of 250 key projects and works selected by the Government to hold a simultaneous groundbreaking ceremony and inauguration in all three regions of the North - Central - South, celebrating the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa - Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee said that, implementing the Project "Investing in building trade union institutions in industrial parks and export processing zones" approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 655 (May 12, 2017) and Decision No. 1729 (November 4, 2020), all three localities of Can Tho, Soc Trang and Hau Giang (before the merger) have made efforts to mobilize all resources for serious implementation, achieving positive results. In the period of 2021 - 2024, the total number of social apartments completed in 3 localities is 2,252 units.
In Can Tho City alone (new), the target for social housing development by 2030 is 16,900 units; of which, by 2025, 1,397 units must be completed. However, the city is expected to only reach 474 units, equivalent to 34%, with a shortage of 923 units compared to the plan. This is a big challenge, requiring the cooperation of the government, the determination of investors, contractors, construction units and the consensus of workers and laborers.
In that context, the groundbreaking of the Housing Project in the Trade Union Institution Area in An Nghiep Industrial Park with a scale of about 1,050 apartments is of special significance. This is the first social housing project in the old Soc Trang province and the 10th project of the new Can Tho city. When completed, the project will provide accommodation for about 2,100 - 2,500 people, contributing to solving the urgent need for housing, while improving the quality of life for workers.
"This project is an "order from the heart", stemming from understanding and sharing the difficulties of housing for workers and laborers. This is the result of political determination, a commitment to action to realize the goal of "leaving no one behind" on the development journey of the new Can Tho City," Mr. Hoa emphasized.
Mr. Hoa also affirmed that the project has profound humanitarian significance, not only a construction work but also a vivid demonstration of the spirit of "national love and compatriotism", demonstrating the concern and care of the Party, State and authorities at all levels for workers' lives.
Representative of the investor, Mr. Chu Tien Dung, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aranya Vietnam Joint Stock Company, pledged to construct on schedule, ensure the quality of the project, comply with the law on construction and social housing, and focus on labor safety and environmental protection throughout the implementation process. More importantly, the project will bring workers affordable, sustainable quality apartments, worthy of being a home for thousands of families.
Previously, the People's Committee of Soc Trang province (old) decided to lease more than 28,000 m2 of land to Aranya Vietnam Company to build the project. The project has a total investment of about 874 billion VND. The scale of 6 social housing buildings is from 9 to 15 floors high, 1 commercial building is 15 floors high, 1 kindergarten with an area of 2,182 m2 and a green landscape system.
The project is also planned synchronously with essential utilities: community activity area in the Trade Union Institution area, children's playground, park green area, basic commercial service system, to build a civilized, safe and fully equipped living environment.
