Vinh Long, Tra Vinh lack labor, businesses face difficulties

HOÀNG LỘC |

The shortage of labor in Vinh Long and Tra Vinh is getting worse. Although businesses have taken advantage of online recruitment channels, local wages are not competitive enough, causing workers to shift to seeking opportunities in large industrial parks.

The demand for labor recruitment increases

Ms. Bui Thi Cam Tu - Director of Human Resources Administration Management of Bo Hsing Company Limited (Hoa Phu Industrial Park, Long Ho District, Vinh Long Province) - said that since the beginning of 2025, the company has received many new orders, so it has planned to recruit 500 more workers. However, since Tet, the number of employees recruited at the company has only reached about 50 people.

In Tra Vinh province, according to Mr. Nguyen Truong Hai - Director of Human Resources Management and Development of My Phong Leather Shoes Company Limited (Tieu Can district), there is a plan to increase output, so the company needs to recruit 800-1,000 more workers. My Phong Company is ready to train inexperienced candidates to build a stable workforce, but the number of recruited is only about 200 workers.

In Cang Long district, New Increase Company Limited (VN), a garment company, is recruiting 200 more skilled workers to serve the new order. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang - Chairwoman of the company's Trade Union - said that since the Lunar New Year, the company has only recruited less than 20 people, a very modest number compared to actual needs.

According to Mr. Vo Tan Khai - Chairman of the Trade Union of Industrial Parks in Vinh Long province, companies in the province need to recruit about 20,000 workers to meet production needs.

In Tra Vinh province, Mr. Trinh Minh Hung - Deputy Director of the Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs - shared that companies in the province need to recruit 4,000 workers. However, the number of recruited workers to date is only a small part of the requirements, affecting the work progress and development of enterprises.

Workers choose to work away from home with attractive income

Many workers in Vinh Long and Tra Vinh said that local companies have difficulty recruiting enough workers because their salaries are lower than those in big cities, despite many reasonable treatment policies.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tam (Vinh Long) said that because the salary at companies in Vinh Long ranges from only 3.5 to 5.5 million VND/month, he decided to work in Ho Chi Minh City with an income of 8 to 10 million VND/month. Meanwhile, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Loan (Tieu Can district, Tra Vinh) chose to work near her home, although her salary is 2-3 million VND lower than Binh Duong, to take care of her family.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang - Chairwoman of the Trade Union of New Increase Company Limited (VN) - shared that the company is having difficulty recruiting skilled workers, but will expand the recruitment of unskilled workers for training in the coming time.

Mr. Le Duy Khuong - General Director of Lefaso Tra Vinh Industrial Investment & Production Joint Stock Company - said that the shortage of labor is due to many people not returning to work after Tet, and the situation is forecast to be more positive in the second lunar month.
To solve this problem, the Tra Vinh Provincial Federation of Labor will coordinate with localities to grasp the remaining number of workers in the countryside, thereby directly consulting and introducing job opportunities at companies in the province. The Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Tra Vinh province will implement online and direct job fairs at the Job Introduction Center, to facilitate workers' access to recruitment information and finding suitable jobs.

The Trade Union of Industrial Parks of Vinh Long province informed that in the near future, it will coordinate with localities to organize job fairs, connecting workers with companies that are in need of recruitment.
