The Recaps feature is included in the latest software update for kindle and will be automatically installed online or manually downloaded from Amazon's official website.
Although it did not disclose details about the behind-the-scenes technology, Amazon confirmed to TechCrunch that these summaries were created by artificial intelligence (AI).
Immediately after Recaps was deployed, users discussed enthusiastically on social media, expressing their curiosity and concern about Amazon's use of AI to create summary content.
The main concern is the risk of AI "imaging" more details that are not in the original story. Responding to TechCrunch, Ms. Ale Iraheta - Amazon's spokesperson - said: "We use technology, including generative AI and Amazon's censorship team, to create concise summaries that accurately reflect the content of the book."
She also affirmed the accuracy of the summaries, but noted that users should use them carefully.
Currently, the Recaps feature is applied to best-selling English series on all kindle devices in the US.
Users can check whether their favorite story series supports the feature by finding the View Recaps button in the story series page in the kindle library.
Amazon said the feature will soon be available on the kindle app for iOS.
